You are right. Why gov want FT to come here in the end need to pay levy and tax same as citizen. And do not get to enjoy the benefit?
Where Citizen get rebate such as GST/school fee/medical/HDB conservancy charge and still nagging!
The only different or disadvantage is male in Singapore because need to serve NS. I do agree only NS do deserve some extra benefit. But what female contribute? They pay all the same tax as all others FT but get to enjoy all benefit.

In Perth, W Australia alone, the SG origin population is over 15,000 and the vast majority of them are PRs. The reasons for this are many. Property issues for example. But the primary one is - they have extended family members back home in Singapore. Mums, Dads, siblings etc. If anything unfortunate, death etc befall the main family member, at least their remaining family members have the option to return to Singapore and be taken care of by members of their extended family.

This is the law of uncertainty that is at play here. Not economics.
And this law applies to all people. Not just to Sporeans.

But , one may ask the question. Why did these Sporeans migrate out in the first place ?. Well here economics may have played a part. The same part that brought my ancestors and yours to Singapore long ago. The same part that is bringing the present lot of foreigners to Singapore.

You see the damage this whole thing is doing. Last month I happen to be at a University seminar in Bangkok and the participants included young folks from Indonesia, Philippines and other Asean members. Somehow the discussions veered sideways, about foreigners working and residing in Singapore. The comments are not complimentary. But the gist is this.

That foreigners are being exploited in many indirect ways to help the less unfortunate locals in Singapore. That it is not worthwhile to work or reside in singapore monetary term wise as there is hardly any residual income to send back home. ( Unless one has a high paying job or lucrative business). all the money earned gets spent right here in Singapore. The foreign worker has to pay three times more for even the simple medical treatment.

In short, the gist message among the group was this. Beware. It is a trap. The foreign worker is being exploited to the hilt. Long 12 hour working hours and very low wages. No savings and so on. Dont go there.

This is the age of the Internet. Instant mass communication era. Perceptions that used to take ages to percolate before, becomes common beliefs within a short time thru various net forums and discussion boards. Once this perception of exploitation sets in as a common factor, it is very difficult to erase.

Secondly, it is downright stupid to make these PRs in SG into citizens. We are only killing our own golden eggs.

Most of these PRs here in singapore come from countries like Indonesia and other Asian nations. In these countries, they have restrictive property and inheritance laws that prevent foreigners from owning properties.

Once these PRs are made citizens in Singapore, they lose all rights of inheritance to the ancestral or inheritable properties. They cannot buy shares, be directors or shareholders of local companies etc.

The other members of their families back home stand to collect their share of these properties the moment it is known one member of their family have become citizens of another country. As long as these PRs continue to hold onto their citizenship, they can continue to collect rents, inheritance benefits and business profits from their ancestral sources and bring it back to Singapore.

So why the heck kill this golden goose by targeting these PRs and force them to take citizenship ?. Especially when they are able to bring in sizable funds regularly, pay all the taxes in Singapore and are law abiding citizens?
