SMRT simply does not get it - train chartering service

billionaires in silicon valley receive special privileges and exemptions in law by the court that is supposed to protect the public from the tyranny of a few. well, it's reality, it happens, and losers just have to deal with it.

in this case, oracle's ceo larry ellison is exempted by the court to fly his private jet in and out of sjc anytime he wishes, including airport curfew hours (11:30 pm midnight to 6:30 am) which allow residents near the airport to sleep in peace and quiet.

and in a 10-1 vote, the sj city council approved a 50-year lease agreement for corporate jets flying elites (apple, facebook and google execs among them) in and out of sjc anytime they wish, without extra curfew restrictions.

They're trying to make it appear that all parties did the right thing.

LTA has told them in no uncertain terms that it HAS to be informed, so there's some comprehension problem going on here.

The fact that Desmond is ex-ACS does not help matters. The fact that no school has done it (chartered MRT trains) before also does not help matters. Someone is bullshitting.

There have been no incidences where thousands of kids descended on the MRT at the same time, because schools always made sure that transport was catered or some other combination of transport arrangement made.

So all this SMRT bullshit about ACS doing a good deed by avoiding the specter of thousands of kids descending on the MRT the same time is hogwash. In the past schools have always managed to handle similar public events so as not to cause disruption to services.

A 40-minute ride on this chartered train costs only $2 per person. Where got so cheap one for normal fares?

ACS students = Larry Ellison?

It has always been this way. When I was representing Boys' Town in athletics, I noticed that whenever an ACS boy won an event, the rest of the schools would boo.

They wanted any school but ACS to be on the podium. Even the Boys' Town team got more support despite the fact that we were all delinquents.

You are a delinquent? Or is it your online persona again?

Also from which year to ___?

Which dormitory?

Studied in A.E.S.?

All information will be kept private and confidential. I promise.

Cheers

they're all the ellison-equivalent treasures of sg and should be accorded elite status.

ACS has so many rotten apples in government ...look at VB as an example. His incompetence is beyond comprehension.

If ACS has that stellar reputation, we would have many Googles, Oracles and Microsoft here already. Instead, all we have Tan Ji Ji spring roll wrap and Ah Gu Char Kway Teow or Sam Leong Chicken Wings.

sam is from boy's town while i'm from old town café.

Excellently put. Sam has started an ACS infestation. Its time to cut him down to size.

Every school has produced the good, the bad and the ugly.

But it cannot be denied that Raffles has consistently produced the best and brightest, whether in the political sphere or the business sphere. Rafflesians have occupied the highest levels of government and industry. And they have done so in numbers, not matched by any other school.

Whether it is Lim Bo Seng, Benjamin Sheares, Othman Wok, David Marshall, Lim Yew Hock, Yusof Ishak, S Rajaratnam, or even the legendary footballer Quah Kim Song, love them or hate them they made their mark on Singapore. Without their collective effort Singapore would have become a different place.

Every Rafflesian can attest that the history, the culture, the traditions of this institution leaves an indelible mark on them. It is a commitment to excellent in every sphere. To REIGN SUPREME IN EVERY SPHERE, THE SONS OF SINGAPORE.

They receive the best of every primary school in Singapore. Even if the teaching is mediocre, they will still be top school by a mile.

The mission schools which are attractive to the middle class and above are good in the sense that their networking ability of their alumni is second to none. They are also risk takers and do well in the private sector. They are also likely to migrate to first world countries.

Even within the mission schools there are certain traits. ACS is pretty much upper crust. The Catholic schools are in the middle just above the government school. Then you have the Elite Chinese Schools .
