Should this also be the template throughout all other government and government-linked bodies, Singaporeans have been shortchanged, paying top dollar to all these so-called management gurus.

Remember you once questioned me on my claim that the Ministers' salaries were set high to match the high salaries paid to GLCs. I didn't the salaries of the true private was a concern as they were not so stable. I believe you should review your opinion now.

Basically it is one salary feeding another and everything got pushed up. Salaries for such GLCs used to be much lower. SingTel CEO used to get paid lower than the CEO of ComfortDelcro but because of this, it started a series of upward adjustments everywhere. Today Ministers are playing catchup with what they have created in the GLCs. This applies only for the very top executives in these organizations. I am sure some second tier executives in these GLCs, also have the ability to perform the top jobs especially in those monopolies and are willing to do it at a fraction of the remuneration. If salary levels for top government and quasi-government organizations and GLCs were much lower, I am sure the prices of property will correspondingly be lower to allow them to play investors in this. It is like the govt started on a wrong footing and couldn't find a way to correct the situation. Gerald Ee's problem is exactly this.

I think you are correct. My apology to Windsor.

your points raised previously made me ponder about something regarding the recent fare hikes made by those taxi companies.

should the taxi companies want to increase the service levels of the taxi drivers, why can't they lower their rentals?

This privatization strategy screwed up a lot of things. Unless the fundament cost of living issue is solved and a large part of it is directly or indirectly due to property prices, the taxi companies can only derive their revenues and profits from rentals. The whole cost of living issue will take several years to resolve and the government is not making big move on policies, only small tamperings with demand and supply. The revised ministerial salaries will help to moderate property prices but unfortunately mainly in the high end.

how, by lowering rentals, can increase servis levels of cabbies? ...

I don't think service qualities for taxis will change much with how much cabbies rent. You either get more cabs or less cabs on the road.

the taxi company say increase the cabbies income can better the cabbies service levels mah, wasn't that the excuse given by those taxi companies when they raise taxi fares? by lowering the cab rental can also increase the cabbies income right? :D:D:D

you may like to check with those twits whom came up with that excuse from the taxi companies.
they were the ones whom correlated service levels with cabbies income levels.

Timing of the announcement of this piece of good news also perfect. Just nice for the weekend for everyone to party and celebrate. Must go and get a case of champagne now.

We all should have street and void deck parties this Sunday to show our delight and send a clear message to the PM and his wife.

Now, any forummers here applying for the job? It will be discounted at 36% old salary.
