skponggol and the WP Thread

Re: The Hammer continues to focus on frivolous issues

Bro, you shouldn't be surprised that there are actually oppos out there who would prefer that WP lose ALL their seats than be considered opposition! With the WP offering only a token voice, these ppl believe we are better off without them!

Without pseudo opposition such as WP in parliament, ppl will be begin to look for the real opposition. I must admit that I used to be one of them. But now I think we should let them be in parliament until such time when the SDP, SFP or RP can be more visible, then we do not need this fake WP masquerading as pseudo opposition anymore!

Anyway these fake anti-papzis are not really voicing the ppl's concerns. They rather keep quiet. So why do we need such fake ppl?

I will give the WP one chance ...if they don't win in such fertile environment, then we bet on the next horse. But by beating up the only option right now, we are doing the opposition and sinkees a disfavour.

Re: WP continues to ignore political exiles

........

Again, all the WP MPs dare not ask a single question on the plights of the poilitcal exiles and media censorship during the latest parliament sitting, despite all the international uproar and public outrage.

https://www.facebook.com/notes/the-...ns-for-7-october-2014-sitting/746973248685344

Not a single Hammerrhoid MPs, members, cadres, supporters, IB, have dare to speak up for the political exiles and film-makers, even in their personal capacity. One has to admire the organised, intoxicated discipline of these Hammerrhoid zombies who can only Dead-Walking in one direction and moan in one sound.

Compared that to the WP anti-gay crusaders, who dare to stand up in their 'personal capacity' and defy the LGBT threat so as to defend and impose their 'Islamic values'.

Unfortunately, no one in WP dare to stand up in their personal capacity to defy the PAP regime, and speak up for the political exiles and film-makers so as to defend and impose democratic values.

The deafening silence of the self-styled First World Opposition has legitimised PAP policies on political exiles and media censorship.

Re: The Hammer continues to focus on frivolous issues

Politics is always an art of compromise. The sort of opposition hardcore thinking of either u give me 100% 'true opposition' or 100% pap authoritarian rule defies all common sense.

Opposition based support hovers around 30% hardly enough to win any election if opposition parties insist on preaching to the coverts than to get out of their comfort zone and reach out to the middleground. If opposition ain't interested to court them, this voting bloc will lean towards PAP which was what happen for the past 40 years.

By far other than WP, I don't see any opposition party making a serious effort to court the fence sitters and can only keep mental masturbating that they are the' true opposition' than the elected one.

I believe these people probably mean you cannot court fence sitters at the expense of the converts. This is a valid concern, but is it a validly justified?

Of all the long long texts that people write on WP, the only one word I have issue with is the word "quiet". People either have no idea what the word means (which I don't think is the case), or is obviously disingenuous. The word is used in an absolute context, you cannot use it in any other way.

By that word, it means something like, June 2011, nothing from WP in parliament in terms of questions, speeches, no Facebook updates or comments or any movement on their online, no walks or MPS, town council not opened. July 2011, nothing from WP in parliament in terms of questions, speeches, no Facebook updates or comments or any movement on their online, no walks or MPS, town council not opened. August 2011, again nothing from WP in parliament in terms of questions, speeches, no Facebook updates or comments or any movement on their online, no walks or MPS, town council not opened. Until October 2014 for 37 uninterrupted months, nothing from WP in parliament in terms of questions, speeches, no Facebook updates or comments or any movement on their online, no walks or MPS, town council not opened.

Is that true? If not, how did they derive the word "quiet"? By cheating themselves and being blind supporters of their own parties?

A true supporter should understand what a party stands for, not understand only when the party speaks out. By just counting words and occasions, WP speaks out the most. How could people think of the word "quiet"? If I am not a single mother, talking about helping single mothers own a flat is a frivolous issue to me. But I should be glad that the topics covered by the party is wide enough and not just about political exiles.

Re: The Hammer continues to focus on frivolous issues

Skponggol is PAP IB. Period. How do I know? Easy. He's never ever said one good word about any other oppo party, or one bad word about the PAP. He just whacks WP non-stop. Ditto for swissbank.

Even GMS – when he's not going on a rant against the WP – has gone on a tirade against PAP policies. Occasionally he has concurred with and even praised some other oppo parties' policy position or statement. It's just that he still holds such a deep grudge against LTK and WP that it prejudices his views, which are otherwise rather objective (as long as WP is not involved) and coherent.

Re: The Hammer continues to focus on frivolous issues

WP got many people from PAP, no? Its kind of satellite party split out from PAP. So, it doesn't matter which one gain or lose seats. They are more or less the same...

WP speaks a lot. Some people just refuse to listen, then say that WP is quiet.
Hansard has all the proof one needs to show that WP has been speaking.

Re: The Hammer continues to focus on frivolous issues

Re: The Hammer continues to focus on frivolous issues

If I understand you correctly, WP being conservative is not called a "problem" (問題). It is what you disagree with.

The conservative ideology is what many parties around the world stand for. If there is a problem with the conservative ideology in politics, it is a problem bigger than just WP as it involves politics at a world stage.

Re: The Hammer continues to focus on frivolous issues

It is a problem for Singapore. U have a ruling party which have conservative ideology, and then u have the strongest opposition party which is also having conservative ideology. What Singapore need is not another voice for conservative ideology. The ruling party has already taken up that role. We don't need another party with conservative ideology.

Re: The Hammer continues to focus on frivolous issues

The issue is not about conservative ideology, but the population is conservative and this would reflect at the national voting patterns.

In UK, there are hardly major parties with liberal ideology. In USA, hardly any major parties represent the left, reflecting that few among the USA population are left or far-left. People don't look up to socialist ideologies and see it as a poor man's ideology.

If there is a market for strong liberal or other parties, this will arise. Nothing to worry.

the problem is that a majority of Singaporean are conservative in nature. rather old school in thinking and had been indoctrinated by past pap policies for many years. Religions represented in this small island are also conservative. Those left leaning liberal thinking are still very small in numbers even though numbers are rising. So as a political party wanting to take over, it best be a mirror image of the incumbent to give the majority voters the sense of continuity.

新加坡工人黨 already kenna labelled as a Chinese party. to speak up in support of Chinese language and culture will cause more trouble only.

WP stands up to PAP on mini fairs

........

Bravo, the Hammerrhoids have finally stood up to the PAP after people have waited so long, long. The moon has finally turned blue :

Mini-MPs from the mini-party continue to haggle on mini-issues
http://www.theonlinecitizen.com/2014/10/ahpetc-questions-nea-on-need-for-mini-fairs-permit/

"Come, come, let us all clap for them !" - cheers the PAP IBs.

Instead of speaking up for the people on major issues, WP has yet again distracted the national attention by focusing all their time and resources on these kind of mini issues.

Forget about CPF, media censorship, national reserves, FT, COE, escalating cost, etc, etc, they are all irrelevant, frivolous sideshow. This mini-fair is the main event, the main dish, the Mother of all Battles, the very survival of this nation and the future of our children depends on it. WP has proven again that they are incapable and unwilling to stand uo for the people on major issues, but only too capable and too enthusiastic to stand up for themselves on mini issues like mini-permits for the mini-fairs, mini-cleaning for the mini-hawker centres, mini-permits for the mini-playgrounds, mini-etc, mini-etc....

One has to wonder why the Hammerrhoids are always so lethargic and so bochap on major issues, yet so energetic and so fearless on mini issues.

One has to conclude that 'First World Opposition' is all about mini-issues like the mini-fairs, hawker centre mini-cleaning, mini-yusheng making, mini-snooker playing, eating and shopping in mini-1Malaysia to promote 1Malaysia mini-economy (btw, among the stall-holders and workers, how many are Singaporean, 1Malaysian PR, FT? Is WP using taxpayers money to fight for FT again ?).

When one look at WP websites and the Hammer, one has the impression that it is a mini travel agency with their MP starring as mini tour guides. And nothing else... With such matinee mini-hits as "我的导游是MP", these WP mini-MPs have a good chance to compete against Mediacorpse mini-stars for the mini-title "十大最受欢迎男女演员" which nobody care to vote except their respective zombies.

Instead of challenging NEA on mosquitoe and rat breeding, and haze control, WP is actually wasting so much time and money haggling over the design of mini permits so that their FT can make more money. When speaking both inside and outside parliament on major issues, the Hammerrhoids should show this same kind of passion and commitments, which very sadly they reserve only when they are standing up for themselves and for FTs on mini issues.

Instead of elevating the level of national political debate and to awaken the people on major issues, WP has yet again sunk the political discussion to another low level by intoxicating the people on such sensational tabloid-like mini issues.

With such wayang "First World Opposition" only too obsessed on mini issues, it is no surprise that the political maturity of the people is so low when compared to other First World, or even Third World, Democracies.

Re: WP stands up to PAP on mini fairs

You must be missing your medication. The PAPpies brought the WP to court, so it was the Pappies who made a mountain of a molehill. It was the PAP who could not tackle the big issues, but bully Opposition parties on nitty-gritties, using gutter politics, petty point-scoring, and totally inane behaviour.

In England, u have the Labour Party, which is the centre-left in its political postion versus the Conservative Party which is centre-right in its position. In America, u have the democrat vs the conservative. Whatever it is, there's two different side. But here? We have both major political parties in the conservative, or right camp or whatever u call it.

Its not that there's no market for liberal or left. The problem is too many political party in Singaproe go align with the PAP. Thats the problem. Case in point, the WP.

Its not the population which is conservative by nature by default. The problem is this country, most people are being brainwashed by the PAP. That the PAP way is the correct way. The best general direction.

So if people labelled WP as a Opposition party, WP would be obliged to stop acting like a Opposition party?? Look, the issue here is not about label. The issue is PAP has got certain major flaw in their thinking, in their stand. So is the WP going to side with the PAP, or criticize the PAP on it??
