Two Fatal Accidents on Miaoli County's Route 3 in a Single Day
Miaoli County, Taiwan (December 14, 2024) - A tragic series of events unfolded on Route 3 in Miaoli County yesterday, claiming two lives within a span of a few hours.
In the morning around 10 AM, a 19-year-old Vietnamese male university student, surnamed Huang, was riding his motorcycle when he lost control while negotiating a curve. He slid into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a sedan driven by a 42-year-old man surnamed Gu. The impact was so severe that Huang suffered multiple abrasions and lacerations, and despite immediate medical attention, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Just four hours later, around 2 PM, another fatal accident occurred approximately four kilometers away on the same road. A 36-year-old Singaporean man, surnamed Lu, was driving a rented car with his wife and 5-year-old daughter when he crashed into a roadside electric pole. The impact caused the vehicle to spin out of control, and the 33-year-old wife became trapped in the back seat. The husband and daughter were able to escape and seek help. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and attempted to extricate the woman, but she was already lifeless. She was transported to the hospital where she was officially declared dead.
According to reports, the Lu family had rented a car in Chiayi and were traveling north to Miaoli to pick strawberries in Dahu. They were on their way to Nanjang Old Street when the accident happened. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The high frequency of accidents on this particular stretch of Route 3 has prompted local authorities to issue a warning to motorists. With numerous curves and inclines, the road is known to be accident-prone. Police are urging drivers to exercise caution, remain focused, and adhere to all traffic rules to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
