Use FEDEX or DHL and insured them..... you cannot claim your item value because you cannot prove what is in the parcel.

A 5K parcel, would have to get insurance!! I think the writer is missing out a lot of details, I do not think SingPost will compensate the contents of the parcel, unless there is an airwaybill or it is a recorded parcel. There is a limit of compensation, you have to read Singpost terms & condition. The person must be able to ascertain that Singpost lost that parcel & write to them on proof of delivery for there are records. For example, the sorting base ( receive or sending) will record the inward arrival of the parcel, assign it with a number. Then they will route the parcel to whichever delivery base for the parcel to be sent out. That means all along the way, there is a record trail or audit trail. In other words, you can get the information & claim from the sender, if they have insurance, but this will take time.

If I am sending something that is worth 5K, I will get an insured, person to person, or door to door delivery, with gurantee, I would not risk of loosing that 5K. Unless the writer is receiving something that is undeclared...like gold bull ions, currency notes or things that "cannot see the light" & customs would gleefully tax the contents.

Yes, agreed. Everywhere, we see little, little signs. Even the fallen leaves are being swept against the side of the road instead of being removed, unlike previously. Also, the HDB estates are getting more and more dirty with a lot of rubbish not cleared...maybe as some MP said, more trashy litterbugs around, but more importantly, appears that cleaning supervisors/managers of town councils are not doing their jobs by inspecting the estate premises regularly and letting ftrash to eat snakes.

I am sure bros can give many other examples of these little little signs of social systems breakdown in Singapore.

Her story does leave out many details.

If she posted $5k worth of items then the very minimum would be for her to post it AR Registered (although even I would not use that). That way there is tracking and she gets a copy of the recipient's signature.

I remember a story in the ST many years ago of a AR Registered parcel being sent to a wrong recipient -- the one just next door to the right one. It became a criminal case. Knowingly receiving and keeping property not belonging to you is considered a crime.

Sender buys insurance. Remember that if you are the addressee. Its usually a small limited amount say US$100. You are better off with DHL or Fedex. At least they won't offer you a $10 store voucher.

I remember a story in the ST many years ago of a AR Registered parcel being sent to a wrong recipient -- the one just next door to the right one. It became a criminal case. Knowingly receiving and keeping property not belonging to you is considered a crime.

Will fall under section 403 of the Penal Code - Dishonest Misappropriation of Property. Usually a fine if 1st time offender. If value is low, may even get off with a warning in lieu of court prosecution.

Beside not using register post with tracking service & didn't insuring her parcel, worst still, probably declared her item as gift to avoid GST. She doesn't even deserve the $10 voucher.

Not running down Canadian Post, but we are lucky so far that our Singpost postmen do not bring mail home, commit mail thefts, and dump the load if it became too tough to deliver them.

CP has a long history of undelivered mail discovered in postal workers' homes...they get charged in court but then your parcels long gone..not even C$10 to boot.
