May PrezTrump not falter in his courageous & far sighted attempts to save US economy, jobs & society.

US Postal Service U-turn on China parcels sows confusion among retailers, shippers

...............................................................

The purpose of the tariffs are to help resolve the societal issues of USA, to make America Great AGAIN.

1.)
NO nation can afford to continually import goods, worse - low quality goods regardless if high or LOW value goods from other nations & expect growth.

Once such dependence sets in, based upon the policy of cheap, cheap, cheap, one's own nation, industry, dollar value & economy WILL sink, as industries will just give up producing, factories closing, retrenchments rise, local supply chains bankrupted, and eventually reduces a nation to poverty that even those foreign exporters will lose their large consumer base....as without jobs, WHO can afford even a foreign imported underwear?

2)It is only comprehensible that the US Postal Service may have teething issues dealing & complying with the Tariffs. Ultimately, it is just a matter of organization, which lays within the responsibilities of the CEO in charge.

i) As parcels from China FLOODS in, it would take MORE time to process those parcels. That the CEO surrendered just means he lacks organizational ability. All it needs is just to hire MORE staff - management & supervisors as well as necessary equipment to vett parcels from China, & also part time or gig workers to help out.

The US Postal service process & delivers a staggering an est 23 MILLION parcels a day. Just a 10% tax on 4 Million parcels from China alone, est a low price of $2 on low value goods would translate into $8 Million per day, $240 Million/mth or $2 Billion/yr, to pay off the full time & part time staff, with even high left over funds to contribute to the National Treasury for social expenditures - healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc...

ii) With such abilities, any parcel from tariffs facing nations will be notified of the TAX needed to pay in order to receive the parcel, as notice of tariffs had been sent out to Americans whom supports poor quality China goods & the robbery of jobs within resource rich USA, which such cheap low quality goods would HINDER local American entrepreneurship from even trying to compete in the market.

But should a high tariff be set in, local entrepreneurs may find it possible to not only create jobs, but make a sustainable living, thus flourishing the economy.

Such is just a basic economic free market principle learnt from the 70s when oil producers raised their prices, eventually leading to Humankind to find alternatives - fracking & numerous energy resources that had been overlooked just because we were lazy to find & explore.....

It's a pause to allow existing parcels to clear customs.

Thanks for the post.

However, questions abound:-

1. As China produces most of tungsten, then what would happen to the miners which are in the millions when there are no buyers for their mined tungsten or other minerals? Of course, China govt can stockpile it, but then mining companies still need to be paid. With 1.4 billion population sized hungry mouths to feed in social expenditure, WHERE would the money come from to feed mining companies?

2
. 'Rare' Earth metals are NOT so rare as the ignorant presumes. Just like in the case of once skyrocketing oil prices, it created a push for Humankind to find alternatives. With oil being sold at $150 per barrel, Fracking became a cheaper alternative for fuel resource. Do not doubt the WILL of Humanity when push comes to shove. - during WW2, it took only industrialized USA months to build up fleets of aircrafts, ships & ammo. Factories & mines sprang up overnight....

I answer:

1. Only USA no buy, does not mean rest of world no buy. And USA produce ...ahem ZERO % OF Tungsten , which is needed ...ahem...for most critical semiconductor.

Now question is, will USA play also work around game? Import tungsten through other countries? Will China threaten countries who sell to USA??

2. Rare earth no rare but to the capability to refine rare earth and sell it is rare. USA has neither facilities, or supply chain to do it.

USA want rare earth from Ukraine? Zelensky BS Trump because all rare earth are in Russian held area of UKRAINE.

HAHAHA....there u have it

Thanks for your reply. However, just CRITICALLY think a bit further....

1. Tungsten & many other so called 'rare' Earth minerals & metals are mined for SPECIFIC purposes, such as for wires, phones, EV cars, etc. WHO are the buyers of such minerals?

They are NONE other than deep pocket Western MNCs from USA & Europe. They are the INVESTORS whom ventured into other nations, wooed by them to set up manufacturing plants & create jobs for their citizens.

With the generous CARROT of tax breaks by the Trump Administration as well as the stick of tariffs, many of those investor MNCs from both USA & EU had pulled back, if not already pulling back to home nations, evidently seen Worldwide in mere months...

Thus, who will buy those so called 'rare' Earth minerals? Some grown rich nations may attempt to do it on their own, using their own treasury as well as its own talents, but it would mean sacrificing social expenditures that may not see expected returns as those that are run by experienced & well connected investment MNCs. Even China, on its own, does not have the necessary funds to fund such operations of filling the gap, as it has a HUGE population of hungry mouths to feed.....

With the largest consumption Western nations developing & mining their own rare Earth minerals, the consequences for China's huge population would be dire....

There is no need to come to this. The World, East & West, can come & work together for progress & evolution of Humankind, rather than to play belligerent games that would only hurt & harm Humanity.......

Trump's second term has one main purpose, to destroy the PRC/CCP, the shitstain on the world since 1949.

Look at the people on his cabinet. Look what Elon Musk had uncovered regarding the Wuhan lab.

More to come.

#1 Think critically 1 more step..if these USA, Western companies buyer you mention do not buy from cheapest, most reliable, source China(China has 90% of Tungsten), they will buy from other sources which are more expensive, less quality due to refining capability. These will jack up cost of American & Europe goods , making them uncompetitive. China market share in these goods, which are usually high tech electronics, will increase and squeeze these USA, Companies out. These will create unemployment in USA, Europe which we already seeing.

Note as Prof Kishore stated, Anglo Saxon is 12% of world population, there is other 88%.

Its true in past 12% is very wealthy but time is ending. Asia, Central Asia and many European countries are rethinking their position on China, why sacrifice domestic economy just to be align to USA? Who suffer? Not USA, its europe who suffer...look at Germany , they suffering like crazy and greatest humiliation is sell VW factories now to China. Hungary and East Europe bloc and aligning with BRICs. These whole block do have huge consumption of minerals and energy need which China and Russia can supply.

The largely marginalised African countries are being supported by China to build infrastructure, and hopefully their consumption and purchasing power will rise in future.

China has been preparing for trade war with USA since initial shock Trump 1.0, they spend 8 yrs to straetgise to less dependent, expose to USA, so now u see every tariff Trump roll out, China replied almost immediately with export Ban / counter tariff, Harvard Prof:

Thanks for your clarity in reply, which took only less than mere 35 minutes to my response, which speaks volumes of your education & experiences, which the insignificant nobody me will respect, even if you had the help of DeepSeek AI....

1. USA is a resource rich nation. It is a large landmass with still vast empty spaces, filled with whatever it needs to sustain, progress & evolve life. It needs not import anything from anyone, for more than 200+yrs since its founding. While it attempts to uplift lives thru expansion of Democratic ideals, it also seeks to find profitability in its ventures, only fair, by playing under a level field of Rule of Law. Thus the rise of Investments from deep pocket USA & EU investment firms in finance & industry, accepted gladly Worldwide by other nations.

2. It would be free market folly to presume that USA or EU would suffer if their products would become uncompetitive under International free market. Every product comes with costs, mostly upon labor wages. While products made in USA or EU will become more expensive compared to China's sweat shop style labor policies, it would mean the Western workers would be paid living wages to sustain life within their own nations.

A rise in wages means a rise equally to supply chains, from a toilet cleaner to the performing CEO. When money is CIRCULATED, it brings a better standard of life to citizens & workers.

How much does a successful entrepreneur needs to live on retirement savings - $3million, $3 Billion? How much can one each eat or buy each day with such wealth? Such wealth can be shared within one's society to redistribute wealth for progress & evolution instead, something that the West had long realized, unlike the East whom believed that they can take their earthy wealth & power into the next dimension....

3. As for the 88% in the World including Africans, they had LONG been mired in conflicts - tribal, religious, power struggles, to fully have a chance to have (w)holistic education, disrupted by such strifes & wars, unlike the West whom had faced such discords, even deadly, centuries ago, but courageously got over it thru the age of Enlightenment by the 17th century which began in Europe & transcended to the rest of Humanity, bit by bit, even today, for progress & evolution of Humankind.

Without peaceful education & opportunities in life, that 88% will never evolve, but fall time & time again, lied to by others over & over again. China does like to make bold statements, with all awe, glitter & gold, taking over industries & such like, but in the end, when sustainability runs out, they are the first to run away & leave those foreign nations that they presumed to be helping, left high & dry on their own, as the Sri Lanka fiasco proved so.....let alone many of its own China citizens' hard earned life savings stolen by no less China State owned banks...

Most Rare earth minerals required specialize extraction methods that mean $$$$$ investment required, refining these method usually require high energy input and technical knowledge.

It is no like today I want to extract, tomorrow I get the mineral supply. The project lead time is smelly smelly 3-5yrs, with some environmental impact to local communities as well

It may not take 3-5yrs or the standard 20yrs to mine & refine an ore. With today's tech, it would only take weeks....

1. USA had long done geological surveys throughout the Federal States for minerals within the Periodic Table. Every mineral & its locations had long been found. It's a matter of wiping the dust off those files, & along with today's advanced scientific instruments, it will only take days, if not weeks for a site to be selected.

2.When one drives along the roads of USA in the hinterlands, one will usually find NO other car, Human or even animals in one's paths for DAYS. USA hinterland is VAST & empty, & such are where minerals can be found & mined.

3. When the impetus for mining gets going, MANY mining jobs will be open to Americans & the necessary legal work permit holders. They wont be carrying pick & shovels, but operators of heavy machinery, as OPEN PIT mining is the safest & fastest way to get ores in quantity, as well as environmentally safe methods now known thru experiences of others.

It is NOT one mine that we are talking about. It will be THOUSANDS of mines spread throughout the vast uninhabited hinterlands Federal States of USA, which will provide hundred thousands of jobs, as well as building up of supply chains & mining communities there - hospitals for healthcare, schools for kids, recreation facilities, etc, which will under economics, translate to millions of jobs & uplifting of lives, money circulated to everyone & economy..... .

4. As for refineries, there are PLENTY of ready built refineries with strong foundations spread throughout the States, abandoned years ago when American mining corporations left for cheap labor nations to make profits, without realizing the harm they had done to US economy & jobs.

It is only a matter of getting civil engineers to check out those infrastructures to deem it safe & well as the necessary repairing or re-tooling of such for each specific ore intended refinement.

5. As for permits, PrezTrump had already signed the Executive Order -'Drill Baby Drill'.....
