SINGAPORE - Unhappy with his colleague for refusing to help him clean up a mess, a waiter pushed the woman so hard that it sparked a chain of events which ended with Ms Neo Xinjie suffering extensive first- and second-degree burns to about 40 per cent of her body.
On Thursday (Nov 29), Mohammad Firdaus Mohammad Nazeer, 19, pleaded guilty in court to causing hurt to the 24-year-old woman by performing a rash act. He also admitted to an unrelated rioting charge.
The court heard that Firdaus, who was on probation for earlier theft-related offences, was working with Ms Neo in a Swensen's outlet at Nex shopping mall in Serangoon Central on June 23, 2017.

Six-month wait for subsidised patients to get an appointment with specialist?

UPDATED 28 NOVEMBER, 2018

Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State for Health, mentioned in Parliament last week that the median waiting time for new subsidised specialist appointments has improved from 28 days in 2013 to 22 days in the first half of this year.

My personal experience did not seem to show this. On Nov 20, I happened to call Changi General Hospital (CGH) for an appointment for my chronic neck pain as a new subsidised patient referred by a clinic under the Community Health Assist Scheme (Chas).

To my surprise, the earliest appointment is on May 23, 2019, exactly 180 days of waiting to see a specialist.

In disbelief, I asked the staff member to double-check because I thought it is impossible that the waiting time is so long.

Intention is not to embarrass but to inform.
Taken in the right spirit, it enables one to reflect, redefine and hopefully, act appropriately.
Open thy eyes to see, open thy brain to think, open thy heart to change...thyself.

SINGAPORE — Despite a decline in the overall number of burst water pipes in the last few years, experts say the problem cannot be entirely eradicated. They cited corrosion, soil settlement and weather patterns affecting the structural integrity of the pipes as difficult factors to control.
A number of high-profile incidents in recent months have put the problem back into the spotlight, with Opposition party member Leon Perera asking in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 18) if burst water pipes “are yet another infrastructural issue” now plaguing Singaporeans.

Machine learning being used to detect fraud
By feeding data into program, cases can be flagged for investigation
SkillsFuture%2B-ST%2BGraphics.jpg

Singapore is using machine learning to help detect crime.
SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), an agency that gives out grants and funding for lifelong training, announced yesterday it has implemented the use of machine learning to detect fraud.
The move is one of SSG's new enhancements to its fraud risk management system.
The media release outlining the enhancements follows several cases of fraud and cheating involving the schemes, including news of a man jailed on Tuesday for his role in a $40 million scam - the biggest fraud case involving a public institution in Singapore history.
The enhancements were recommended by a task force formed about a year ago to conduct a review of SSG's grant administration and fraud mitigation capabilities.
