Looks like we are going to live up to this name soon once the casinos open its doors. However, this is not the 1st time Singapore becomes a SIN city. In Sir Raffles time, there was a period of a few years he left the administration to William Farquhar. When Raffles handed over to Farquhar, he told him never to allow gambling, opium and prostitution on the island...don't take short cuts to make money because it will surely destroy the place. When Raffles returned after a few years, he was shocked to see gambling dens and prostitutes. Farquhar devoid of ideas to develop the island economically resorted to allowing gambling dens, slave trading and being lax on vices like prostitution in order to collect more taxes. Unhappy with the direction that Farquhar was taking the island, Raffles sacked him and restored the island for progress over the long term.
100 years we see history repeating. short-cuts taken and history lessons of dealing with vices forgotten. The key to Singapore's progress and prosperity during Raffles time was never been to trade away the people's morals for short term gains. What do casinos bring and create? Gamblers and prostitutes....it is all dirty money ...</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
