Singapore Aim to be Top 10 Footballing Countries in Asia

top 10? what is the point?
only 3 slots for asia for world cup.

2010 WC slot for Asia is 4.5. The 0.5 is the playoff between Asia's 5th best team vs Ocenia Champion. In this case, NZ (the same population as our dear Spore) beat Bahrain 1-0 to qualify.
Australia is part of the Asian qualifiers in case youre not aware.

the heavenly scholars are dreaming again and planning big so they can get their big pay packet in high positions planning big empty concepts and pleasing their bosses.

wonder who are the dumb fucks wasting the nation's resources on something that we are never going to be good at with the ridiculous football standards we have here.

chao cheeybes

how was the 2010 plan????
total waste of $$$ and effort.

yeah exactly since australia sure to take slot 4.
and NZ most likely take 0.5 slot.

therefore there are 3 slots for asia only to fight out.

why do you think australia and nz spend so much money to move themselves out of south amercia group to asia group.

Singapore no longer can look for excuses by saying that being a small nation and as such cannot excel in sports. Croatia with population of four million is strong in soccer, basketball, tennis and water polo.

There's no sure slot for Australia. With the two Koreas, Japan and the Middle East cluster, Australia still has to fight for it. With Australia having left Oceania, the 0.5 slot for NZ is practically assured.

Australia left Oceania because they're sick and tired of playing with little Pacific islands; you can't improve much that way. There may be some geographical logic to join South America too, the highest qualification ratio given by FIFA at almost 50%, i.e. about half of SA countries would qualify. However, that's also the toughest qualifying zone in the world with all-in-one qualifying league instead of groups. There's no way of escaping Brazil and Argentina through the luck of the lots; must face both. Oceania too soft, SA too tough, so naturally chose to join Asia.

Hi my dear friend, I don't think there are even 10 nations in SEA.... I think the last time I counted there were less than 10 countries in SEA... =)

I maybe wrong but let's count realy quickly...

(1) SG
(2) MY
(3) Indon
(4) Philippines
(5) Vietnam
(6) Laos
(7) Cambodia
(8) Thailand
(9) Timor? (I don't know if u can count them?)

Yo u damn malu lah... ASEAN got 10 members mah, Timor Leste is provisional one, you left out Myammar - forgot Wing Aun izzit ? Oh yeah, also Brunei !

yes, top 10 in South East Asia, CONFIRMED ONE ! LOL :D

damm funny. honestly, Singapore football is down the longkang liao.

look at our ass-league - dismal turnout, even have to invite foreign teams to come in to boost the numbers and coffers. like that how to be top 10 in Asia?

its the mentality not the hardware. Iraq win Asia Cup with almost nothing. That Zainal can continue to dream loh. Top 10?

You mean Singapore can beat:
Iran
Iraq,
Saudi Arabia
China
N Korea
S Korea
Japan
Qatar
Australia
Bahrain???

as well as other Central Asian teams.

Gosh, i did not even put Thailand and Vietnam

Please loh...top 10....bottom 10 more likely.

SEA tradition football power is Thailand. Just like Australia's situation in Oceania, Thailand can't improve much with SEA Games and ASEAN Championship as the main international tournaments. Same can be said for Singapore waterpolo team.

Maybe Australia should join North, Central America & Caribbean nations.

Middle East countries in Asia is very angry with AFC for letting Australia joined in.
The Aussies not only take away one World Cup slot and also take away one Asian Cup slot

not forgetting Serbia....

no need to look further than Denmark or Switzerland. We always envision to have Swiss standard of living, how about first having Swiss standard of football?

Can't even pay to get to watch the WC, wtf! How to be top 10 footballing countries???

If the useless Arab countries has what it takes to compete, they wont have to fear Australia or for that matter, fear any country. If you look at this edition's WC, North & South Korea, Japan & Ozzie. Not a single Muslim country made it. Closest was Bahrain but they blew it.
AFC president, Mohd HAM-mam, a qatari, who has cause so much problems to the AFC fratenity, had better step down since the yellow skin countries have prove yet again, the more successful countries, in terms of consistently qualifying for the WC. Korea has qualified for every WC since 1986.

being top 10 nations in SEA , more likely

hi there

1. why should we be only among the top nations?
2. sheepishland pays and buys mah!
3. we must be number one one!, beating brazil and argentina hoh! above all exception hoh!
4. never mind that there is no sports stadium or what, we have elites and scholars and most importantly, million-dollar salaries minds working on it.
5. sure can deliver one!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_31–0_American_Samoa

On April 11, 2001, the Australian and American Samoa national football teams faced each other in a qualifying match for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Australia set a world record for the largest victory in an international football match, winning the game 31–0. Australia fielded a team filled with several rarely-used players as many regulars were either rested or omitted from the team.

If Brazil play Singapore with their strongest team and give everything, I think we will lose 15-0 only... :D

What I see is that Oceania is a meaningless zone. Should have merged into Asia as a whole and the 0.5 slot increased to 1 added to Asia.

Anyway, if Oceania is going to stay as a zone, Singapore might as well apply to join it. It's practically only NZ to deal with, and with a little luck, could get a high profile one inch from finishing line play-off instead of slogging through the Far East and Middle East countries and always got disqualified halfway quite a distance from the finishing line.

Eh, maybe Singapore should look for another "National sports"? Soccer doesn't seem to be making it in that country so to speak.
