Should HDB install key card system ?

It's high time that HDB lobbies be 'gated' so that only residents with key cards be allowed to access the block.

For one thing, this will prevent loan sharks from spraying paintwork inside the building. The privacy of the residents is protected as you don't have to fear unsolicited visits from salesman, garang guni and distributors of flyers.

It's not practical and won't stop the ah long.

1. When you enter with key card, when a stranger is approaching, do you hold the gate for him or simply close the gate quickly so that the stranger must use his own key card to open the gate?

When you are waiting for the lift and someone is trying to enter, do you press the button to open the gate or ignore him?

2. During festive seasons, the tc disables the key card system to 'enable the relatives and friends to visit'!

3. The system breaks down frequently.

What I suggest;

1. Do the real upgrade by fencing up the blocks involved.
2. Employ the old residents to mend the entries and exits to create jobs.
3. Residents enter and leave by key card.
4. Visitor must register at the entrances.

Of course not all HDB can do the above but then why do the half-baked key card system that does not really serve any purpose, EXCEPT UPGRADING!

They only thing they upgrade is the pay & their wallets...one , even remark that he is 'surprised' by the amount of CPF money he received, & gets his staement monhtly...:p

it's already in place at some bedok south flats. must have been in placed for at least 5 years.

the issue pointed out be pc2009 is true. personally observed when i'm at the void deck waiting for friends.

they did paid 20k to 50k over hdb pap dogs over inflated evaulation. Therefore they expect some decent services. if you paid an arm and foot for a pigeon hole, you will want to ask some extras too.

It might be feasible. Perhaps, it is time we should consider implementing it on some newer HDB blocks. :oIo:

Add more security will cost money and maintenance. It will be more inconvenient for old people because have to walk far to gate. More like prison.
