Well I think he has tried his best. The British (who are a polite, reasonable and intellectual people) before him tried too to tame the barbarians, but with very limited success.

With some exceptions (I should believe you are included), most Singaporeanese I notice on the streets (as well as in other social settings), are rude (very much so), critical (on others rather than themselves), cynical and barbaric people .....

With hindsight I can see that LKY is an oppurtunist. All the so called speeches he's made in the past were self serving. Now that he's had time to consolidate his power we see the abuses that comes with absolute power

Its not surprising that many 'older' Sporeans have become so cynical. They know what is going on in Spore. Many have lost their faith in the PAPs. What you see on the streets are the 'newer' Sporeans created by the PAP system. Must give full credit to LKY for that.

You have many foreigner admiring the efficiency, cleanliness, etc. Spore is a 'fine' city to visit, but obviously not a place you would want to settle & call home.

Well it seems that the "newer" generation is half as cynical, and they think they know a lot about how things work through their persisting negativity on themselves, their country and on other people, but in reality, despite whatever little they may have miraculously gained from their self-created negativity (nobody can threaten you and say "be negative!" and you become one, right?) they don't really know much about anything at all, especially as regards to the world. Hollow-headed cynics is what I could unabashedly call them.

Not so true. Under than my uncle I also got know some Japanese, Dutch, Burmese and African flat dwellers in your country who love Singapore and the peaceful life there - they have been living and working there for so many years and no one, may I reiterate, none of them, has really complained about anything nor have they expressed an interest in leaving.

I know many Indonesians & Sporeans who have left Spore for good. However these people are from the working class AND have children. So income sustainability & quality of life is important.

For foreigners Spore is a much better place because they have no NS liabilities. I bet the Japanese & Dutch nationals are keeping theirs .

Many of those complaining are Sporeans lah. You have to understand where they are comming from. All those nice roads, buses , .. are being financed off their backs. Where else can you find a gov't that ignores the welfare of its own citizens? Ahem I mean lesser mortals

The Sporeans who have left Spore are also very happy in their new homes  So much freedom, space, quality of life, quality health care, schools, ... Other than the weather they don't have any complaints. I even know an ex-Spore PR (previously Indonesian) who migrated to Canada, became a Canadian citizen & then return to Spore to work  He also thinks Spore is a nice place to work :biggrin:

A country is more than a place to work. When you have its MPs refering to Spore Incorporated you know you have a problem.
