[Sg video] - Pedestrian mysteriously appears out of nowhere and causes cyclist to crash into her/him at 0:05 in video

A year's jail maxf for blatantly mowing down 2 people does not sound like ACCOUNTABILITY to me. He should be charged for murder. Had he been riding a bicycle those poor souls would still be alive and well today. This is why cycling should be made the primary mode of transport while driving should be a privilege for the few that have passed stringent testing rather than issuing a license to all and sundry.
Muhammad Syafie Ismail has not been sentenced yet.

Bicycles and vehicles users should be treated equally before the law.. since cycling is a vehicle under the law....hence licenced and Insured...and face the same penalties because they are using the road and can go more than 40km/h...if cyclists hit pedestrians at that speed...injuries etc still hurt as compared to a motor vehicle at the same speed....the cyclists broke the law...and should faced the full force of the law..like a vehicle driver...

Be careful of insurance scammers who run in front of your car inside carparks or narrow lanes, where they know you cannot drive fast. I once braked in time, foiling the scammer's attempt to defraud me, so she took 3 steps forward and flopped on my bonnet. I told her that my dash cam recorded everything, so she walked away cursing me in Malay. LOL!

Vehicles come in different categories with different risk profiles. For example HGVs are speed restricted to 50kph. Large HGVs are limited to a max speed of 40kph.

On the other hand cars are smaller and lighter and speed restrictions are imposed according to road conditions and surroundings.

Bicycles may be classified as vehicles but because they are small and light and powered by humans there is no need for speed restrictions, insurance and registration. The red tape would outweigh the benefits.

Yet more proof that cars are so much more dangerous compared to bicycles. If a bicycle had hit the biker from behind it would have just been a minor incident for both parties.

This is why cars need to be registered and insured whereas bicycles don't.

.... and here's why pedestrians should be registered so that they can be held ACCOUNTABLE for their rash behavior.

There are speed limits on shared paths like the Rail Corridor because of speedsters who think they are participating in the Tour De France.

Another view of horrendous crash which would not have occurred has the driver been using a bicycle instead of driving a car.

Car drivers got arrested for hitting pedestrians...how come the cyclist not arrested for hitting pedestrians?

BMW hit student, 14, crossing road at Sumang Walk in Punggol, driver, 24, arrested
Police investigations are ongoing.

A 14-year-old student was hit by a car at Sumang Walk at around 11:20am on Oct. 10.

He was allegedly hit while at the pedestrian crossing when the "green man" sign was on.

A 24-year-old driver has been arrested for dangerous driving causing hurt, the police said.

The student was conveyed unconscious to hospital.

Hit while crossing on "green man"
Details of the accident were shared on Facebook.

In the photos, a boy in a school uniform could be seen lying on the side of the road with a backpack beside him.

According to the post, he had been waiting at a traffic light at a minor road junction.

When the pedestrian traffic light turned green, he began to cross.

But a BMW heading his way allegedly "failed to slow down and beat the traffic light", the post said.

The car allegedly collided into the boy, who hit the windscreen before falling to the ground.

As a result of the accident, the car had "a big crack" on the windscreen, the post added.

Aftermath
The person who posted about incident online had been passing by the road with his wife when they saw the boy on the ground being attended to by medics.

A woman who witnessed the incident then told him what had happened.

The boy "was trying to catch his breath so hardly [sic]", the man wrote.

"Our heart broke seeing that," he added.

"All we can do now is pray for the boy."

Police investigations are ongoing.

Junction
A Mothership reader who was aware of the incident pointed out that the location at Sumang Walk towards Sumang Link, is considered a "dangerous junction" by residents due to the downward-sloping road with vehicles exiting the estate onto the road.

"It has been a dangerous junction as it’s too close to the bridge down slope and also vehicle exiting from the estate," the reader said.
