It is only common that the defendants would seek for mitigating factors & public sympathy, but there can be NO denying the fact that PMDs travelling even at mere 10km/hr WILL hurt an unsuspecting innocent pedestrian SHARING the footpath. It is only SCIENCE - that PMD has far more weight, mass & velocity to harm than a walking foot pedestrian travelling at far far lower speed.
Worse when those drivers get out to BEAT UP the innocent pedestrian for merely voicing safety concerns....NO CITIZEN would tolerate such BARBARIC behavior, nor will be silent, as should those SAVAGE animals go scot free thru our fair Judicial systems, then such may similarly happen to their own loved ones too, & NO citizen will live on knees to barbarisms or fear.

Should those barbaric animals be found guilty, it is NOT enough that they pay a mere simple fine. They MUST be made an EXAMPLE of, so that others whom are as barbaric as them would KNOW FULL WELL the JUDICIAL CONSEQUENCES to them if they ever hurt or harm another.
An example needs not be harsh. It will be thru innovative & effective CORRECTIVE reformatory orders, should those animals show TRUE remorse & wish to escape jail terms from the HARSH justice of law, such as -
a)Pay for the victims legal, psychological & medical costs.
b) Be there to greet their victim EACH morning for 3mths SINCERELY & wish her well, supervised by at least a SPF or an AETOS officer. The aim is to alleviate the victim's trauma. At the same time, after some time of sincere efforts, may the victim offer up low cost but healthy breakfasts to her REFORMED assailants, as a sincere gesture between both, of forgiveness & atonement.
However, for those whom have no remorse, may they rot in jail for several years, with reformative training to rehabilitate them back to civilization, for safety of society...
