Settling down in Perth

Our home (my Bosses place) at Bullcreek is a gem. 4 bedrooms, 2 baths and fully furnished (by him) and a beautiful native plant garden that is tended to by a gentle soul of a gardener. The kids go to Rossmoyne, which is, from what I discovered, a highly coveted government school for locals.

Welcome to Perth.

My office is quite near where you stay..... its at Garden City...... probably the closest big mall to you.....

Rossmoyne Senior High is one of the best govt schools in Perth. They consistently produce the top TEE (equivalent to SG's A Levels) students every year. It's really lucky that staying in Bull Creek means you are in their catchment area.

I have been living in Perth for the past 12 years..... Don't hesitate to contact me if you need any info on living in Perth.

Remind me of my early days, the moment the bank will lend me money, I went for an investment property before even buying my own house. I remember the bank asking me if I have enough savings for the deposit, I have more than enough to avoid paying the lenders Mortgage insurance.

That insurance is a double edged sword.
First, the insurance premium is paid by me,
second, the insurance protect the bank, and not me
Thirdly, should the bank make a claims, the insurer pay tha bank and sue me to recover the money they paid to the bank.

On top of all the small prints in a loan document, LMI is just another tool the banks use to cover their own ass.....

In a way, it is good for Australia because it prevents a sub-prime financial meltdown like what happened in US.

Thanks, would you have any info with regards to possibly fast tracking my 457 to a PR visa?

Sure.... you can go the the 457 transition stream if you wait till you have worked 2 years for your 457 sponsor, or you may go the direct entry stream if you want to apply now....

Of course, you may also have the option of applying as an independent skilled person or as a state sponsored one if you qualify without an employer.

Email me. I can give you further advice.

Just a bit of celebrity snooping....

I saw Lim Kay Tong at Myaree yesterday.....

Perth seems to be like a favourite destination for Singaporeans.......

Perth is the journey into the heart of Harry Lee (Lim Kay Tong), a 51-year-old part-time security guard and taxi driver. He belongs to a redundant generation, eclipsed by a fast-paced, elitist society that is mesmerized with education and status. Harry desires to leave the antiseptic streets of Singapore for his paradise on earth in Western Australia. His attempt to migrate is complicated when he takes on a job ferrying prostitutes. This evokes painful memories from his past. When he takes an unhealthy interest in a Vietnamese prostitute, it awakens a dark and dangerous attempt at personal redemption. The film tackles an extremely topical issue of emigration in Singapore. It is peppered by denizens of the underbelly of Singapore society, reflecting the multicultural idiosyncrasies of a seemingly pristine city. More importantly, it is a personal journey of a flawed man in a society that does not tolerate failure. As such, Harry s rant and anger - directed at anyone and anything, but himself - is merely a distraction from his own feelings of impotency within society, and his inability to find redemption from his past.

Catching Perth’s Wave in Western Australia

Print Hall, one of the city’s most celebrated new restaurants.

Conjure up a city embodying all things right about cities. Assuming you lean toward the progressive, I’ll wager your rendering includes the following: multiple parks and waterfronts; spotless subways and free public buses; restaurant menus with organic, locally sourced food and wine; cool bars in heritage buildings; and pop-up everything, from farmers’ markets to cinema and yoga.

Welcome to Perth.

The capital of Western Australia, where some 1.8 of the state’s two million residents live, left this New Yorker mesmerized: Could a city really be so easy, breezy, green and pristine — so positively livable? I’d thought Williamsburg was hipster heaven; it pales beside Perth.

Finally granted PR and will be moving by end of next year. Will be in Perth this June to look at schools for my kids - Willetton area and to catch up with old friends. Would be good to touch base with 888Migration and Menghidupkehadapan if they're willing :)

Welcome to Perth bro.

As much I would have liked to meet you, I have learned quite a bit in this forum that sammyboy life and real life would be best kept separate.

Best wishes to you in Perth, once you've settled down, life is pretty good despite what people say about high taxes, expensive and racists.

Don't deny the high taxation and expense, but racism is something here that is openly frowned upon while the overt perpetrators are as rare as hen's teeth.

Willetton, Bullcreek, Riverton and Shelley are nice suburb for families, it's Perth's equivalent for the Bukit Timah area for schools, mostly made up of public (government) primary schools feeding into Willetton Senior High and Rossmoyne Senior High, both government schools which have consistently attained good annual rankings.

Enjoy your new life in Perth, stay for a while and you might not want to return to SG! :D

Hi there, hows the outlook and potential for employment for social workers over in Australia?

hey, which part of Auckland are you in?
---------------------

I like the place... not too big... population of 1.5 million only and plenty of space for everyone.

The weather is great... cool all year round... hardly ever goes beyond 25degC. A bit too wet in late winter/early spring but I'm not complaining.

Cars/houses are cheap, plenty of open space for my hobbies, exchange rate vs OZ was great when I moved here.

I love parts of the US but I hate the whole of UK.

As I'm still pretty new to Perth, I have little experience in the opportunities available outside my immediate industry and thus am not a good authority in answering this question.

Apologies.

Social workers is a very general term.

Compared to Singapore, Australia provides a complete range of community services as expected of a rich advanced nation. It is a major industry in Australia.

there is a general move to collaboration of government and community NGO organisations for community services providers.

despite todays fed govt budget cuts, there are still many ongoing community services programs that require community services providers. Many have ongoing government grants.

the range of services include specialist areas like drug diversion and disabilities, to areas that requires you to have clearance to work withchildren eg child protection, family services.

The salaries of community workers varies, from the lower end of the payscales to good if you are in govt.

Employers include Govt depts dealing with mental health, disabilities, child protection, human services, drug, police, aged care, aboriginal, etc.

NGOs include Mission Australia, Salvos (Salvation Army), Palmerston

Fed, states and local govts have needs for community workers.

Hi I need some advice in shifting my family to Perth or australia. I am planning to buy a property there for stay to start off. Is it a good idea to start a business there or apply for a skilled visa? Which is easier? Planning to do small investments there too. Don't want to work for others. Will still be keeping my local job. Please kindly advise.
