<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->DURING a fit of rage in February, Koh Meng Heng attacked a taxi driver before throwing a chair at a policeman who came to the aid of the beleaguered cabby.
But it would not be the last time the 41-year-old flew off the handle.
Six months later, he kicked another taxi driver and then choked an officer at the gates of the police station where the cabby had driven to for help.
Yesterday, District Judge F. G. Remedios sentenced Koh to 21 months' jail for the rampages.
According to court documents, Koh's first frenzy kicked off in the early morning hours of Feb 27, when he hemmed in a taxi on Geylang Lorong 15 with his car. The cabby honked, and Koh shot him a middle finger.
After the taxi driver responded in kind, Koh got out of his car and approached the cabby, who remained in his taxi. Koh went on to punch him in the face and kick him in the abdomen.
Two policemen on patrol spotted the commotion and tried to restrain Koh, who pushed them away.
He fled the scene and the policemen gave chase, catching up with him outside a coffee shop. There, he suddenly turned around and punched one in the chest before running off again.
Later, in a backlane, he picked up a plastic chair and swung it, hitting the same policeman on the forehead and arm.
He was eventually handcuffed but his bout of rage was not over yet. He swore at another policeman who arrived at the scene and spat at him as he was being placed in a patrol car.
On Aug 22, a similar situation played out. Koh and a female companion were picked up along Geylang Lorong 29 at about 1.40am.
Reeking of alcohol, he told the taxi driver to take them to Bedok, but did not give an address.
When they reached the area, the driver asked for directions but was instead scolded and later kicked by Koh.
The cabby drove his taxi to the nearby Bedok North Neighbourhood Police Centre, with Koh still in the back seat, where the cabby ran into the station for help.
Koh ran after him but was stopped by policemen who tried to calm him down. He became more aggressive and choked one of the officers before being subdued and arrested. [email protected]
