You are right about this Abdul Halim. If I'm not wrong he was in the ICA intel unit. He is a loud character and wants to be constantly in the limelight. He would call for the media for whatever event that he is involved in so that he is made well-known. Many know him as what others call a "media whore". He would do anything to be on TV. Anyone who know him, knows that.

He was almost selected for GE by the MIW and went for tea-sessions many years ago but was eventually dropped. He had since been trying hard to get into the good books of MIW. He is the President of the Singapore Sepaktakraw Federation and had created a fair share of problem and sport politics within the organisation. Based on his profile, he is dependent on MIW for survival and it does not make sense for him to allow to the forum.

In late 1990s, he was sued for some accounting problem which he was the former Chairman of an organisation. It was ugly for the Malay Community and it was rumoured that some of the higher ups had to intervene to resolve the problem. For that, he owes MIW a favour.

I wouldn't be bothered with what he says as I do not deem him reliable.

This is not considered a PAP endorsed attendence. Abdul Halim was never a Senior Government Servant. He was just a Div 1 Immigration Officer. When the Malay Professionals revolted during GCT tenure, the agreement that was negotiated in the main is that the Malays professionals will have say in selection of MPs, party political officer. It is more a franchise agreement than individual members joining the party.

The only possible reasons the Malay "leadership" is allowing this is 2 fold - (1) show the PAP that they can wag their own tails and (2) they are seeking a platform to create a profile. The fact that their high profile member defected to PAP seems to make this even more intriguing.

I won't be surprised that he tells people attending that he came as a rep of one the Malay group that he leads or involved in.

SDP should not have bothered.
