it just means that the tablets to commemorate the father, son & lao Goh have to be put on hold. but no matter what, they already reserved that plot of land for their memorial.

I am talking about the top people also. When LVS fails, you can invite their top people to come over. Or the sg govt can set up another company in joint venture with an established operator.

Well, there's the issue of culture fit. If the CEO is not aligned with the culture that LVS staff have always been in, it'd be like fitting a square peg to a round hole.

On the second point, I think if Sands are in trouble, so would be their competitors. They all have the same customer base, same pool of customers, even if one's more inclined to reach for rich people, than the others.

And besides who would want to be President of a backwater casino? Most likely if there's an American who wants to make it big, he will go to places where the casino's likely to grow, and more importantly, one which will make himself famous soon. Macau, yes, Monaco yes. But here? It will take a while, and besides most heartland Americans don't venture for overseas news.

I was talking about IR development ie infrastructures, business setup etc

Hi PNP,

This is what I heard from those working closely with LVS. They have said that they plan to move forward the opening date unless there is more govt "support" during the upcoming hard times.

We already know that China is restricting visas to Macau but the upswing is that these people now will come over given the relative cheaper flights in the future months and year ahead as oil prices come down drastically.

Looks like LVS will be seeking a private rescue plan or some assurances from the govt or with Temasick.

Well, it looks like a delay is on more on the cards than a pullout, they've already invested beyong the point of no return.

Cheers,

MM

Hi!, thought you disappeared?!....went back to the 'kampung' ( Kampung ok!), just last week!. Life there is still the same!, they are upgrading the market & food centre AGAIN, thought they did that 5 years ago. It will open in 2009...,when?

Once again, raising the costs, it will cost more to buy from the food stalls & market stalls...we will see aircondition food court etc... all in the name of progress!.

Anyway, good to see you here!..btw the bak kuah shop is still there:biggrin: ha ha ha ha...good grief!, so many years!

Or even better the Tang Dynasty in Jurong..

Talking about the Tang Dynasty, actually the place would have made money ( some at least).

There is an old abandon railway line, that leads to Jurong years ago, they could have used that rail line, run a 'choo, choo, train' to Tang Dynasty. Unfortunately, KTM owns that line, and the golf course is in the way.

Tang Dynasty is a case of bad planning...will the IR be another case of bad planning.

Gambling, needs wine, women & song....it goes hand in hand, all these vices. We already have legalized gambling, legalized drinking, but we need to leegalized the 'oldest profession' in the world.

You think the gamblers, will just fly in, gamble, fly out & go home?. If they are going to just gamble?

Seriously, even if LVS is in deep shit, I don't think there will be a lack of suitors taking up a stake in the MBS. Casino business is lucrative. The restriction on Macau can only push visitors this way.

Incidentally, my boss just went to Macau and he reported that the whole place is still damn crowded with PRCs.

This is the retribution for PAP Regime for prioritising investments in casino constructions over

1. Hospital Building
2. Schools upgrading

Don't be daft. Hospitals and schools are paid for the the government. The IRs are paid for by the casinos (in addition, they also pay huge sums of money to the government for the licence).

This deception is so typical of the followers of the MONGREL who bit his masters' hands LOUDHAILER chee soon juan and his SDP reCHEEme.

Tang Dynasty is ideal for releases as a F&B, leisure and entertainment hub for the western part of Singapore. Pubs, karaoke bars, restaurants, game arcde and even a small Golden Village or functon hall could be set up in the complex. For some strange reason, nobody at JTC (correct?) thought the same. They let the whole place rot in the sun for so many years. Tang Dynasty has a unique structure that lends itself to very strong branding for the local market. But it could never be a tourist attraction. Look at what they did to a locally-popular icon like Haw Par Villa -- they killed it.

You are right on this, nearby is the old ice skating rink complex, now still with a bowling center & eateries. If they had better foresight & planning, but many of these quasi government bodies are dinosaurs & doing their jobs.

There was recently published in the papers plans to develop the area including the Japanese & Chinese gardens, into something likd the 'lake district'!

But till then, it is real pity that Tang Dynasty was a massive failure, the developer lost a lot of money, I believe!.

i didn't say that, it's your PAP Regime Lee Master Govt. said that resoures have to be diverted to CASINOs constructions instead of hospitals and schools upgrading.

if you have problems with this, please take up to your PAP Regime Lee Master Govt.

If there is insufficient resources for hospitals, why need to spend $1billion on church? Can donate more money to help those who are suffering. After all a church is only a place of congregation. You can always go to Hong Lim Park for sermons since its seldom used.

Singapore is NOT building CASINOS. It is constructing INTEGRATED RESORTS designed for healthy wholesome family entertainment.

Oh yes I heard that LVS is also building a church within the Integrated Resort which can hold 5000 to 7000 people at each congregation.

Hi Hal,

Been busy with things and been travelling a lot over the last few months. My carbon footprint is way into the red zone already... : )

It's nice to see you here too.

I went past the place just 2 days ago. I heard that the hawker centre got burnt down or something...perhaps that's why they are "upgrading" it.

Yes, 5 years ago was about the last time they renovated the place, I guess they have a lot of unused funds. I last saw the Ansana trees are now beginning to move whole sections of pavement in front of the CC, I guess they didn't do anything about it for the last half a decade.

Catch up with you in other threads..

Cheers,

MM
