Cyclists pull 'stunts' and ride without safety gear or lights at CBD

A Stomper shared with Stomp a video of the incident and expressed concerns over road safety.

At least four cyclists were seen riding on the road without any helmets or lights on their bicycles.

"A dangerous way of riding, pulling stunts around Shenton Way and near Marina One East Tower," the Stomper said.

"Some of them released their handlebars while cycling."

This is not the first time motorists have spotted cyclists flouting the rules.

Last month, a group of cyclists were seen tailgating a trailer truck on the West Coast Highway. None of them appeared to be wearing helmets.

According to the Land Transport Authority, all cyclists must:

  • Wear a helmet when cycling on roads
  • Always ride as close as predictable to the far left of roads, and allow traffic to overtake you safely.

A cyclist demonstrated a blatant disregard for traffic rules in Tampines.

Stomper Lee alerted Stomp to footage of the incident posted on SG Road Vigilante's Facebook page.

According to the post, this was captured on Feb 6 at about 6.35am.

In the video, the cyclist is seen flouting multiple traffic regulations and putting himself, and others, at risk.

Firstly, the cyclist was riding without a helmet.

He ran not one, but two red lights and also failed to keep to the left side of the road.

One netizen wrote: "Is he still alive?"

Another said: "Some people have to find out the hard truth before they learn."

Shows just how safe cyclists are. On the other hand this is what cars do on the expressway.

After seeing the carnage, death and destruction you'd wish more people used bicycles instead.

Yes cyclist n cycling is soo safe that there should be no issues getting cyclists sit for test, get licenced and be insured like all vehicle users

Because cycling is so safe there is no need for all that red tape. We don't need to license and insure pedestrians so cyclists are no different. At worst they cause minor mishaps rather than serious accidents.

So all the more reason cyclists should be licensed and insured like motor bikes since they are soo 'safe' ..won't cost much and give protection to all road users...and surely u have no issues with accountability and protections for all road users.?
