SAF serviceman dies during 2.4km run

SINGAPORE: A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman, collapsed Friday morning while taking part in a self-paced 2.4km unit run at the Nee Soon Driclad Centre.

The Defence Ministry said in a statement that Second Warrant Officer (2WO) Lim Kian Hong, collapsed about 1.2km into the run.

The 52-year-old technician was immediately evacuated to the Nee Soon Camp Medical Centre where the doctors tried to resuscitate him.

An SAF doctor and medic continued their attempts to resuscitate the SAF regular serviceman when he sent later to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

2WO Lim who is believed to have no known major illnesses, was pronounced dead at 9:51am at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The Ministry of Defence has said it will assist the family of 2WO Lim during and is investigating the incident.

The latest death follows the death last year of three servicemen during unrelated training incidents.

It seems like most of the regular SAF servicemen are UNFIT! sure no major illness...his major illness was having too much coffee at the canteen, & eating too many in-between meals & meals a day in SAF..the good life!

Nowhere in the news column did they say he was doing IPPT - he was taking part in a UNIT RUN - either to keep fit, or he is too on-the-bola.

who knows in war. maybe he can fixed a fighter plane in half the time than a young person.

who knows, maybe in war, he is actually useful.

so, maybe IPPT should be made easier for old folk.
