Sometimes SAF Commandos just wear the red beret. They are so proud of the red beret and it is the trade mark of the Commandos.

the red beret is the head dress for admin & parade la. they deploy in the vegetation using jungle hat. actually, its a very stupid thing. when they jump out the C130 they're wearing kevlar helmet, then once on the ground, change to jungle hat, then when engage enemy, change back to kevlar helmet.

its a very funny thing that i can never understand. its like telling the guys to wear condom to pee, or, strip their pants when they wanna fart.

Ah Beng Woo was supposed to be creme-de-a-creme. Yet he was gunned down and that too accidentally by a village idiot. Imagine the outcome if the Malays, Indos and Thais were to seriously go after our useless Ah Beng. Will we see another massacre at Changi beach? What a fucking waste of ammo is the first thing that comes to my mind.

You people here keep talking about how bad he sucks this and that.

Try changing your story if it were you who received the training and was in his position: Would you have escaped safely from the fired shots without a scratch? Would you have done better in his position?

Sometimes people around here don't think logically, and are like some kind of elite keyboard warriors platoon, waiting to unleash their flames and fury when something screwed up gets published in the news.

The Thais also have conscription and the Thai Army has had many combat/battle experience eg against the Burmese,Cambodians and the insurgency in the south and at one time in Isan.

Many Thai villagers are therefore combat veterans and it is not unusual to hear of guns being used to settle economic and social disputes.

How many of our guys have had actual combat experience before?

Would you have done better if you were him?

in the first place...how did he end up being shot? He trespass onto villager's land? Or villager confront him with a shotgun? If so, why didn't he defend himself? we are talking about a training military personal vs a villager.

Even if he is unarmed, a commando is expected to be able to defend himself. We are not playing hide and seek...

Do you hear of any SAS, GSG-9, Special Forces, Spetsnaz, etc. being shot accidentally by a farmer? No? That's your answer.

Read the story and than try and picture the scenario. People here are not keyboard warriors, we all have done military service and night ops. We are speaking from experience. Look at the facts. U have a bunch of Thai villagers going thru the plantation vegetation with torchlights on and what not like a heard of elephants, and as commandoes you did not notice them from far away? You were so untactical that u could not avoid them? These villagers weren't specifically looking for commandoes. What if it was an enemy patrol looking for them, how would they even avoid them. Also, the report said the commandoes crouched. They should have been hitting the dirt on their belly, as close to the ground as possible, or take cover behind a tree in the plantation. When you crouched, you are still 3-4ft tall and that's why he got hit with the pellets. I can tell you Thai rangers and other elite units of all the ASEAN countries having a very nice laugh now.

One thing that they would not tell you is that, these places, are populated with villagers. They have guns to protect their livelyhood, and robbers.
One one particular mission I had many years ago, the training people had placed some "ambush" for the battalion as part of exercise. Unfortunately, the place of ambush was near to some people home or what, I am not sure. The villager dogs were barking theur heads off.
You can imagine a whole battalion walking by and another group waiting to "ambush" them. Not long then, the villager fired a warning shot.
Of cos, the trainners were mad, and talk over the radio who fired the shot. The "attackers" quickly replied that it was the villagers who fired the shot.
Trainners called off the attack and move away.

Typical SAF incompetence. Even the trainer cannot tell diff between a shotgun shot and a M16 shot. They sound totally different.

....the Thai Army has had many combat/battle experience eg against the Burmese,Cambodians and the insurgency in the south and at one time in Isan.

The units doing most of the the fighting were from the Thahan Prahan army ranger units. The Royal Thai army is like AssAF dun have actual war experience. Kinda sad the General who built up the Thahan Prahan rangers was assassinated by his own government.

Many Thai villagers are therefore combat veterans and it is not unusual to hear of guns being used to settle economic and social disputes.

Agree with you here..... many of the villagers were war veterans and could teach a thing or two to our commandos.

Training in Mandai and training in Thailand is very differrent....... when we did our training in Lopburi/Saraburi back in the late 70s/early 80s..... our unit will always fail the "jungle lane" exercise. Even kenna exercise semula many many times still cannot survive that jungle lane phase of training and we had won the BEST COMBAT UNIT in AssAF several times consecutively.... so malu. :o

You have missed the point totally.

The answer to your above question is "no".

The point many have been making but lost on you is this... the ENTIRE SAF and not just the commando in question sucks.

dear fren, commando only got 2 types, lerpes or strike. SAF has a pact w the thai to use kanchanaburi for training, so should be out of bounds to civilians.

anyway, no matter lerpes or strike, commando insertions should be stealth at all times. there's no reason why the 2 jokers should have been spotted by the villagers. i believe the hunting game story is just a cover up. there's a possibility that the 2 fellas had breached the civilian's property.

or, if the hunting story was true, then i believe the 2 fellas must have been sleeping & snoring so loud that the villagers thought it was a wild boar.
