I only bet on England and Uruguay winning championship. Both lost but I lost a little for fun only. Still have my good old humble Rolex Datejust.

Anyway, I'm not against people spending money like that or flaunting like that. If they have or made their money, they're entitled to do what they want with it.

Whenever the discussion is about branded goods, the discussion is never about affordability. Whenever it concerns affordability, nobody has the right to say if the other person should buy or should not buy.

The discussion is not about affordability. It's about the 'value' of such a choice, whether such value is a manifestation of wisdom or stupidity or some other moral statements.

Patek Phillipe used to have a very classy advertising slogan, "You don't really own a Patek Phillipe, you just take care of it for the next generation."

from tag huer to seiko to fossil, i prefer dress watches cos no money for rolex range.

Yes, i am quite sensitive! But whatever,if any offence in my words, i apologise!
Good friends,ok!;)

Why you so sensitive ? You need to be physically strong at your age to cast a shadow on the face of the clock. I'm flattering you.;)

Indeed, and I like that quote. In a way I'm getting a new watch to start a new life over here. People said things like Rolex is too common too hao lian. There is also the question of affordability. I'm not a collector, and I only intend to buy one watch. There is really only two items I can think of for a men to buy as jewelery, a good watch and cufflinks. Like most people, when I ask what watch should I buy, my friends told me Rolex, same reaction that it is too how lian, too garish so to speak. When you think about it, it may not be as prestigious as Patek Philipe, but its more recognizable then it. It may cost more then a Seiko, but it retains its value better then it. I'm getting a Rolex because I want to keep it for the future. As for able to afford one, I'm in a much better position now then before to own one.

Another popular prestige one is the Omega Seamaster. It's been around really a long time don't know since when but shot into mass popularity from the mid 1990s by Pierce Brosnan playing James Bond role and wearing it. Daniel Craig, succeeding Brosnan in the Bond role, also kept wearing it.

Submariner is the original James bond watch. Sean Connery wore it in Dr No and appeared in 11 other James Bond film.

I think that Omega must have sponsored James Bond producers and Pierce Brosnan quite a lot for them to switch.

Same with Aston Martin, suddenly everyone wants to drive a BMW. Good thing they change back to Aston martin again.

Kanina, who look down on Seiko ?

Seiko and Citizen also very recognizable. The issue is recognizable by which group of people ?

This one cannot argue. It's a question of demand and supply.

But I'm wondering why few people choose a watch as an extension of their personality. A Jaeger Le Coultre exudes a gentlemanly appeal which will look a total mismatch on the wrist of a chicken-rice seller.
