KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: The 20-litre fuel cap on foreign vehicles travelling within a 50-kilometre radius from the border will be implemented on Wednesday, said Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Bernama news agency quoted Mr Ismail as saying the ruling is aimed at checking smuggling of petrol and diesel at border areas until a new mechanism on fuel subsidy is implemented in May next year.

"Petrol kiosks at border areas have been given notices informing them of the new ruling on foreign vehicles," he told reporters at the parliament lobby on Tuesday.

Currently, Singapore vehicles need to fill up at least three-quarter tank of fuel before entering Malaysia, under a Singapore ruling.

Mr Ismail said his ministry would be stationing officers at 493 petrol kiosks at border areas to ensure that operators adhere to the 20-litre cap ruling.

"Our officers will be equipped with charts on fuel capacity according to vehicles. For example, Toyota Camry with 20 litres will fill one-quarter tank, Nissan Sentra and Honda Civic about one-third tank," he added.

Under the Supply Control Act 1974, offenders can be fined RM100,000 or face three years' jail, or both, while kiosk operators can be fined RM250,000 and their licences revoked. - CNA/de

Go 1 station fill 20 litres, go another station fill another 20 litres etc.
Other than that just another rule to help the officers to more kopi duit

Crazy idiots doesn't realize that it is impossible for SG cars to be at 20litres since we need to fill up 3/4 tank before going in so it will prevent SG cars from going in just for petrol in the first place. He expect everyone to drive all the way to KL before they can come home

They will kill their JB biz from Singaporeans and get themselves kick out in the next election.

Effectively, any Singapore car with a fuel tank capacity of 28 litres will be arrested immediately once they cross the causeway, no need to travel.

Is this a big joke?

huh? what do you mean?

Nah. MY Voters vote for whoever whack Singapore the hardest. Just look at Mahatir's popularity vs Badawir and the new guy. The latter 2 don't whack SG, so the MY voters whack them. Now they will try to whack us again to win the next election

How come just like our newspapers, some folks here don't cover the full story. So no checks on SG cars leaving JB but just that we can only buy 20 litres of fuel at each petrol station:

However, Ismail said Singapore registered cars were exempted from border checks.

The Singapore government does not allow any Singapore-registered vehicle to leave the republic without three quarters of a tank of fuel.

"(For example), if they (Singaporeans) come to Johor Baru just for a short trip and when they leave, they still have a substantial amount of oil left.

"So, they are exempted from the ruling of having 20 litres in their tanks because of the three-quarters tank policy.

"When they leave, they will still have a substantial amount of fuel left so if we impose the 20-litre limitation, it will cause problems because that fuel must have been purchased in Singapore."

He said owners of foreign-registered vehicles had to travel more than 50km if they wanted to pump more than 20 litres of fuel.

He said any border town stations caught flouting the rule would be fined RM250,000 (S$102,125) while individuals will be fined RM100,000 (S$40,850) or three years' jail, or both.

Sinkies want to own a car, resort to such cheapskate methods to cut their maintenance cost!

Don't know whether to laugh or cry.:D

How come our leader never address this issue and explain the terms and conditions to their ppl, another case of sinkies fark by pappy.

Oh yes, but so are the Thais as well as the Malaysians working in Singapore. Would they pump gas here if they had a choice, hell no!

Petrol is not a maintenance cost by the way, more like an operating one. Many go over there to save and not only just to get cheaper but more value for their money.

Its funny that just 1 year ago, i was the one scoffing at the folks and well heeled relatives doing that, now i realised, hey why go against ones own wallet? No one is going to fill it up for you, certainly not your government. They are busily taking my tax money and subsidizing FTs here for education and lodging.

if you sinkie here want to own a car and try to save petrol, might as well ride a bicycle.

Want to own car and still complain here and complain there. I do not see anything wrong with what the Malaysian govt is doing. Those who can really afford petrol will see that as just another day to Malaysia.

Hey bro wuqi,

Are you residing in the beautiful country of Malaysia now?

CB kia tonychat,

u damn stupid.. that policy is to stop thai cars from entering mudland to take advantage of their cheap petrol...

the more u talk, the more your stupidity shows..:oIo:

Same reason why a grassroot auntie told my mum that Malaysia does not sell or allow pork to be purchased. People are robbed everyday and sometimes more than 5 times.

Things there are also not cheap and must pay 20% GST for groceries over there, all food and cans are expired and there are no Giant/Carrefour/Tesco etc. Somethings are so ridiculous that its funny that we just take in anything thrown at us.

I guess the stakeholders here, the landlords and those with vested interest such as shops/retail businesses are those that hate SG folks to spend their money overseas and hence would like to make it such that folks here spend all their money here if they could have their way.

Hey Tonychat, oh yes. I come and go as and when work allows. I have MACS now for the whole family so its pretty convenient as no need for white card/stamps.

I also just bought 2 cars over there so this 20 litres does not really apply to me.

The main point of this policy is indeed against the Thais, some of whom have modified their fuel tanks to a very large capacity to take advantage of pricing.

tell that to the thai loser.. to him everything or anything that go against him in his life is the fault of 'sinkies'...:D

Funny how we can go to great extent to save on 1-2 dollars of fuel in Singapore and get stuck in jams in SG for hours.

I remember from the traffic jams etc reported on the news that was caused by a recent promotion but yet we laugh/jeer at people saving more money crossing the causeway.
