Introducing Terence Koh: The Instagram Husband
And here’s why Jamie Chua's camera-toting beau deserves a standing ovation.
By Dawn Hee
You may or may not already know this, but the fancy #OOTD photos you see on the Instagram account of socialite and The Closet Raider co-founder Jamie Chua, 42, do not come easy.
Behind every glamorous outfit update is an unsung hero clicking away as she strikes her best poses. Who is it, we wonder? Credit goes to her #InstagramHusband, Terence Koh, of course.
As the keen eye behind her Instagram photos, Terence has even declared on the social media platform that his new year resolution is to “improve [his] photography skills, so Jamie won't have to make [him] take a hundred photos per pose.”
The witty 44-year-old lawyer spills the beans on what goes on behind the scenes, and quips that a Tibetan monk's patience is imperative for the perfect shot.
Do you think you're an Instagram Husband?
Terence: If I'm not one, nobody in this universe is.
Haha, we get the picture. So it’s a full-time job huh?
24/7, 365 days a year, and counting. There is never a day off.
What's the funniest remark Jamie has made about the shots you've taken of her?
Your photo makes me feel suicidal! (laughs)
What’s a typical day like for you as an Instagram Husband?
Morning
I have to come up with 101 interesting places to shoot for the day before narrowing it down to two locations by lunch-time.
Afternoon
1. The first thing I have do is to pack all my equipment: camera, lenses, extra batteries, and flash. I try to fit them into as small a bag as possible unless I am in the mood for lifting weights.
2. Then, I chauffeur the subject (Jamie, haha!) and equipment to the shoot location.
3. Shoot till I drop. There is no time to rest. Good lighting waits for no man.
Night
I will have to continue shooting if the earlier session was a failure. Dinner break is permitted, but shooting continues during dinner.
Midnight
Finally, I get to rest! However it's time to edit the photos. A good photographer never truly sleeps.
You sound like the perfect Instagram Husband.
All I can say is, never challenge your woman when she remarks that your photos are not up to her standard. Keep going until she's satisfied and nobody gets hurt. Everyone goes home happy.
Has being an Instagram Husband changed your lifestyle?
It has definitely made me a better and stronger man. (laughs) Instead of wasting time at a pub drinking with my buddies, I now hit the gym on a regular basis. I have to keep fit in order to survive my new job as an Instagram Husband! It demands total concentration and dedication to the craft.
On the downside, I've picked up a very expensive hobby: photography. I'm now obsessed with the latest camera equipment, in particular [the type with] the L word – Leica.
If there's one thing you could say to your fellow Instagram Husbands, what would it be?
If you are not up for shooting your queen, someone else will. So suck it up and get your act together, fellas! (laughs)
