Guan Yu was subordinate to both Cao Cao and Liu Bei. Not eligible to 煮酒论英雄 with them. Cao Cao and Liu Bei were the two. Liu Bei seeing the time wasn't right and he hadn't enough power, conceded defeat to Cao Cao and bought time to flee for another day. Cao Cao later realized that he shouldn't have let Liu Bei flee and started a massive and messy chase. The ensuing chaos left Guan Yu with Cao Cao and he served under Cao Cao for a while before he found Liu Bei again and returned to Liu Bei.
