Renovation to your homes

A 15-20L paint can cover the walls of a Singapore HDB master bedroom, 2 ply. From here, you should be able to roughly calculate the total paint cost of the whole house.

Can any brothers here please enlighten me on the debris disposal charges. Many thanks

3years ago , it was about 200 per 14ft lorry load inclusive of man power for the removal . Normally only 3~4 lorry load will be sufficient lor. Normally your main contractor will price in all the debris disposal and general cleaning for you already . Why need to pay for debris disposal charges , unless you want to be the main contractor and co-ordinate everything .:p

Just completed my reno in Puteri harbour with Zest Design. Overall good woodwork finish and quality works. So I asked why have bad review in the forum. Answer was simple bad customer, do work and don't pay, so we stop work. Let them complaint and see how they deal with debt collectors. I guess in JB the rules are different with the debt collectors. Anyways, this days doing reno works are not so cheap anymore. Garbage disposal also increase caused of restricted dumping sites. Last time, every contractor just dump all over.

I hope you don't mean Zest Design uses Debt Collector to settle disputes. That's scary, even in sg.

I'm looking for vendors who can polish and restore the luster to my solid surface kitchen counter top. I would appreciate any contacts. Thank you.

Hard to find these contractors. Depending on the type of solid surface you have, you can actually DIY.
If your material is light colored Corian, Formica 44 or Samsung which are very dense, then all you need is a motorised car body polisher, and very fine grit polishing disc as well as polishing cloth. However if your material is dark color or is those of acrylic, then you have to be careful as they are not dense and tend to have scratches.

Thanks very much for your tips. Will try out on a small obscure corner. Much obliged.

You can try this as well if you are just looking for a cleaner surface, not a shiny one.
Use those green color dish washing souring pad but make sure it is the original Scotch 3M type.
I use it to rub off oil or coffee stains. Mine is Dupont Corian.

Need to ask if any of you bros/sis have done a comparison of prices for bathroom products like Grohe and Hansgrohe in Sg and JB - is it cheaper to buy in Sg or JB?

Also, besides these 2 premium brands, what other decent brands are there for shower sets?

If possible to for those Matt black instead of chrome finishes...
Chrome is so passe now.
Although I dunno whether it's easily sourced in Johor

Hello! May I check if any one has contractor contact to add a water pump?
My JB house's 2nd floor has low water pressure so thinking of adding a pump...
Gum siah in advance! :D

I would suggest you check what is the pressure the pipes in the house are designed to withstand and rightsize the choice of the pump. If and when the buried (within the wall) leaks, it's going to be a big headache.

Correct and may I add:

If old house, then chances the pipes had rusted inside and dirt had built up inside, causing the inner diameter to be small.
Never use pump on these as old pipes have fittings that are not designed to withstand pressure. Even the taps will leak if too high pressure. Then the joints will leak too.

New house these days use upvc pipes so not so bad in corrosion. But the joints have to look after too. Water leakages is one of the hardest thing to fix. More so the pump is normally fixed after the water tank in the roof, make sure it is properly done, if not you get waterfall.

Thanks both! It is actually a new house I am inspecting for house defects. I was told that I could try to install a pump first...if pipes burst, at least the developer will still fix them. My hood neighbors mostly have installed a pump cos' water pressure is really low upstairs...:o

Even if you can get the developer to repair burst pipes, the mess it can create is no joke. I had the unfortunate experience of "indoor waterfall" during the installation of bathroom cabinets when contractor accidentally drilled into a concealed water pipe.

My house was designed for installation of water pump. Yet developer specified the maximum power of the pump that can be installed, presumably they would deny any claims if an oversized pump was installed. If you want to provide for hot water showers only, there are water heaters in the market with built in pumps you can consider.

My house had a water pump installed by the developer. After 2 months, the piping joint just after the pump gave way and the attic flooded causing part of the paster ceiling to fall down. Entire place was a complete mess. Water flowed from 3rd floor to grd floor like a waterfall cascading down the steps. Floor boards were damaged, fitted in cabinets, lights and not counting the plaster ceiling at lower floors.

Lesson learned is it is not the pump that will give problem but pipe joints and workmanship. Pipes can be upvc, but valves do corrode over time. The motor will vibrate and the immediate joints will be affected. If it is inside the walls, tiles had to be removed and hacked to rectify. Very messy.

Website for checking whether a malaysian is restricted from travelling outside malaysia.

http://sspi2.imi.gov.my/default.aspx

Normally those who cannot travel are:

Bankrupts, Government loan defaulters especially those who took education loans, Income tax defaulters,
obviously criminals on the loose and nuisance ones too. Normal people should not worry about it.

However, this website does not apply to Malaysians in Sabah and Sarawak. They have their own Immigration laws and many people are not permitted to enter Sarawak or Sabah even though they are Malaysians. Remember, Passport is a privilege and not a right.
