They are even prepared to compensate Rooney for the remaining time on his £250,000-a-week deal to get him out of the door.
The striker, 31, would then become a free agent and United will not insist on any clauses restricting him from joining a Premier League rival.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman admitted this week he would like to sign the England captain – with Toffees legend Duncan Ferguson key in a potential move bringing Rooney back to Goodison Park.

Rooney has been relegated to the bench this season So, having rejected a mega-bucks move to China in the past month, Rooney could turn his release from United into an emotional return to his boyhood club.

United are very confident of signing Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann this summer.

It's true defensively, he's quite pathetic but that's not the main reason United (over)paid for the player. I would have preferred Pjanic and it would have cost United a fraction of that fee.
IMO, Pogba has two outstanding qualities for a midfielder-vision and passing(long ball). His work rate is also the highest among the midfielders. He needs to hone his attacking instincts and shoot when the opportunity presents itself. All too often,he holds the ball far too long and dribbles unnecessarily. He has to be mindful of the fact that there are no Vidals or Rossi around to assist. Defensively, he's hopeless- a disaster with man marking and tackling.

United can rest comfortably knowing that Barca and Real will not come knocking on our doors anytime soon. Pogba will do well if he can measure up to Scholes qualities.

Read in some forums that Martial has not quite adapted to Mou's 'style' of play and that was the reason for his failings this season. Off field issues aside, the Frenchman has been given the same task as he was given by LVG last season-left wing. His form has been atrocious since the start of the season-one good game followed by 4 or 5 bad ones. His unwillingness to take on defenders is telling and appears to lack the conviction and desire to win games.

I do agree that Mou's chop and change in various positions is proving more disruptive to the balance of the team. Personally, it's really hard to create a winning momentum and move ahead of the teams above them.

I am truly delighted to read that Ibra has copped a three match ban. It will be a real test for Mou's red brigade and see what they're really made of. Well, they'll have to earn every penny,at least for the next 3 games.

Manchester United are investigating alternative forward signings for the summer due to the difficulty of purchasing Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, and are considering moves for Kylian Mbappe of Monaco and even Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
Griezmann had been the Old Trafford club’s number-one target as the marquee name to join in 2017 but The Independent has learned that his transfer has now been “lessened in priority” because of how complicated any prospective deal would be.
Although personal terms had been agreed with the French star’s representatives at the start of the year and Jose Mourinho obviously still wants him and will persist in trying to get a move done, extracting Griezmann from Atletico Madrid is seen as particularly tough due to the terms of his contract and the Spanish club’s total unwillingness to sell in a year when they also move stadium.

United may be forced to pay his buy-out if they want him, a process much more complicated than having a bid accepted, but there is also a feeling the 25-year-old may be holding out for a move to Real Madrid. United sources say Mourinho himself doubts whether it will be feasible this summer.
For a variety of those reasons, United have downgraded Griezmann in terms of “priority” and have started working more seriously on other options.

Mbappe’s sensational form for Monaco means they will investigate whether a deal can be done for the precocious 18-year-old, but Lewandowski’s current status as a world star - combined with his obvious quality - would also make him an especially attractive signing.
A move for the Polish striker would synch with United's commercial aims around the team. Lewandowski has just signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, who would be reluctant to sell, but the Premier League club are considering testing how durable that stance is.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of the FA Cup quarter-final at Chelsea, leaving his side without a recognised striker.

Rooney collided with Phil Jones in training and misses out with a leg injury, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic begins a three-game ban for elbowing Bournemouth's Tyrone Mings. Forwards Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford [illness] are also missing.

Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has a fully-fit squad at his disposal.

The precise nature and severity of the leg injury Rooney has sustained is not known but the England captain was unable to complete the training session and will have a scan on Monday. No blame has been attached to Jones for the incident in what has been described as a "full-bloodied session".
It had been expected that Rooney, 31, was going to be involved because he did not go to Russia for the Europa League last-16 meeting with FC Rostov on Thursday. Rooney was expected to be named in Gareth Southgate's England squad on Thursday for the friendly against Germany on 22 March and World Cup qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley on 26 March.
He became United's record goalscorer in January, eclipsing Sir Bobby Charlton, but has played only once since 1 February and last month turned down offers to move to China in order to complete the season at Old Trafford.

I will be fascinated to see what team United boss Jose Mourinho picks, because Chelsea are not a side you want to play when you are tired.
The Blues are cruising in the league, 10 points clear and they have to be favourites to win that and the FA Cup too. There is no better team than them in the Premier League at the moment.

Man U will have no recognised forwards. To the extent that Fellaini may play as forward.

If we look at the FA matches over the weekend, it's straight wins for the home teams.

If Fellaini plays I hope he don't get sent off because Chelsea vs Man U are full of dismissals.

I cannot see any optimism in this. I suppose Mourinho will park the tank n hope for penalty shootout.

Pogba has alot to learn when it comes to defensive duties. His concentration is poor to say the least. He gave kante a good yard or so to tee up the winning shot. On this evidence alone, United ought to sign up Bakayoko this summer and make him a priority.

The danger to knockout competitions or any for that matter are referees. We saw that in the game between Barca and PSG. Referees ought to get tough on play acting. Guys like Suarez and Hazard are getting away with it. The winners of these competitions are going to be decided by referees which brings me to my very point from the outset that Mou and company should keep their eyes glued to the league and not Europa.

All it takes is one bad decision and you're farked for good.
