Old Trafford deals are structured so that up to 25 per cent of a players’ wages are taken away if they do not reach Europe’s elite club competition.

Manchester United are seriously considering expanding the Old Trafford capacity to a staggering 88,000.
The increase by more than 12,000 would be likely to start with an extra 7,500 seats in the Sir Bobby Charlton stand, formerly known as the main stand.
Previously, the railway line at the back of the structure meant expansion would require a costly tunnel and the demolition of a number of houses. Advances in technology, however, mean this may no longer be an issue.

Barcelona's Nou Camp would be the only domestic football stadium bigger than Old Trafford

United would then look at adding quadrants in the two corners of the stand which they would be able to build without reducing capacity while work was ongoing.
Following completion, capacity would stand at about 88,000 — putting Old Trafford second only to Barcelona’s 99,354-capacity Nou Camp at club level in Europe.
It would be second in this country to Wembley (90,000) and bigger than Real Madrid’s Bernabeu (85,454).
A safe-standing area may also feature in the development and though United fans are in favour this would require a change in legislation.
United fans group MUST has demanded the biggest club stadium in Europe and United managing director Richard Arnold told Sportsmail the club are ‘acutely aware’ of the clamour to increase .

Any development would be likely to include hospitality suites, with United currently using Lancashire County Cricket Club facilities for corporate packages.

Flaccid performance, for a moment I thought LVG is still the manager. Arguably a very strong eleven yet overawed by Hull's makeshift team who looked hungrier and more menacing.

If not for the 2-0 lead, we would have joined Liverpool. Either the cold has froze the players' balls or Mourinho want to panchan Silva to ease the fixture congestion.

Lingard looks to me more and more like a lightweight fly swatter, with no apparent future at the club. None effective in the game. Damian is slow like a cockroach, funny that mourinho didn't bring fosu to replace him. Fosu is being wasted by him like this.

It's hard to play on an icy pitch and I'm glad that no one was injured. You could easily break a leg playing in those conditions. I honestly thought losing now in an otherwise 'inconsequential' match like this would do more good than harm. They've lost that sharpness and the tempo has somewhat tapered with each game.

Lingard at best will turnout to be a Lexus. The Bentley is still in the garage. Fosu will be big and hopefully he'll show the same if not more enthusiasm as he did when he made his debut under LVG. Let's not forget he's still 18/19 but he's got to up his game to claim a regular spot.

Wayne Rooney: Man Utd striker's Old Trafford future uncertain

Could Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney accept a lucrative offer to play in China?
The 31-year-old forward's Old Trafford future is the subject of intense debate.
Rooney broke United's goalscoring record at Stoke on 21 January and made his 28th appearance of the season in their FA Cup fourth-round win over Wigan on Sunday.
But the England captain - also his country's record goalscorer - is the subject of serious interest from the Chinese Super League.
BBC Sport looks at why Rooney's future is so uncertain.

Eased out at United?

Yet the 31-year-old's eight Premier League starts are fewer than Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, the same as Marcus Rashford and only one more than summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who made only his second league start at Everton on 4 December.
Manager Jose Mourinho has said he does not view Rooney as a midfielder, where he had been used so often by former manager Louis van Gaal, but as a "9 or a 10or a 9 and a half".

However, the signing of Ibrahimovic effectively blocked off the main striker's role. Especially since the Swede has 18 goals to his name in just 30 appearances.
The relative lack of Premier League starts has led to speculation that Rooney, who joined United from Everton for £27m in 2004, is being eased out of Old Trafford by Mourinho.

Interest from China

Wayne Rooney has made more substitute appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United this season than everyone apart from Marcus RashfordIt is understood Rooney is aware of significant interest from the Chinese Super League, who have spent vast sums on the likes of Carlos Tevez and Oscar recently. He knows the huge amounts that would be on offer to a player of his status as captain of both England and one of the world's biggest clubs.

In addition, his long-time adviser Paul Stretford has links with China through his 'turn-key' Red Lantern digital media agency.
Although the Premier League transfer deadline is 11pm on Tuesday, the Chinese Super League remains open for transfer business until 28 February.

So, there is another month for Rooney to leave United for China and such a scenario has not been ruled out.
Mourinho, who turned down an offer from China himself, has said repeatedly he would not stand in the way of any player who wanted to leave Old Trafford and has also said he would not blame players for accepting the offer of a large Chinese contract, especially those coming towards the end of their careers.

Nevertheless, after selling Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin already this month and saying Ashley Young might leave, letting Rooney go without bringing anyone in would represent a risk given United are active in three cup competitions in addition to chasing a top-four place.

[FONT=&amp]Manchester United have an agreement in principle with Antoine Griezmann, the Atletico Madrid striker, to join the club in the summer, according to reports in France.

[FONT=&amp]Although United have yet to strike a deal with Atletico for Griezmann, it is thought the player has indicated his willingness to move to Old Trafford and the framework of a contract worth around £15 million a year has been discussed.[/FONT]
[FONT=&amp]Enrique Cerezo, the Atletico president, vowed to fight tooth and nail to keep Griezmann after admitting last month that United were one of numerous clubs chasing the France forward.[/FONT]

[FONT=&amp]But Griezmann’s contract contains a €100 million (£85 million) release clause which, if triggered, will leave Atletico powerless to keep their most prized asset. Griezmann, who is likely to be given the No. 7 shirt if he completes a move to United, has a close friendship with United midfielder Paul Pogba and that is proving an influential factor in the club’s efforts to entice the 25-year-old, according to Yahoo Sport in France. Griezmann scored for Atletico against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.
