Senior Minister of State for Transport and Finance Josephine Teo, says in Mandarin that her Hokkien is not good but she will try as she wants to communicate to the "grandpas and grandmas" directly.
She says: The election is coming, you may be thinking, your vote should be for PAP or the opposition?
Opposition parties say they want to speak for you, but they have not been here for decades, and yet year after year, the estate has improved.
They have not been speaking up for you, and yet, you have the Pioneer Generation Package.
So who has been speaking up for you all these years? Of course, the PAP MPs. ST PHOTO: GOH YAN HAN
The crowd responds enthusiastically to Mrs Josephine Teo's Hokkien speech.
She turns emotional as she says the Pioneer Generation had a really hard time before Singapore became what it is today.
"We have to make sure we can pass it on to the next generation," she says.
Everything the PAP does, they opposition criticises, she says: "Everything is not so good one."
They sell Singaporeans an easy lie, and glosses over the difficulties and trade-offs they have to make, she says.
"They sell koyok!" The crowd shouts.
Describing Singapore as a well-built house and precious jewel, she asks, who do you want to hand it to?
"The opposition wants to tear your house down. What will they rebuild? A castle in the air." ST VIDEO: GOH YAN HAN
They will turn your house into a house of cards, "weaken its foundation". If the house breaks, they will say "handover issues", "we are learning", Mrs Josephine Teo says, referring to the Workers' Party.
"Let us work together to make this a better house for our future!"
"Majulah PAP! Majulah Singapura!", Mrs Yeo shouts at the end of her speech to cheers.
