17 Apr - Celebrating her 49th birthday recently, Shu Qi said that getting older has helped her learn to have a simpler desire in life.

The actress, who shared photos from her small celebration at home with husband Stephen Fung, wrote, "As we reach a certain age, our desires for life become simpler. The once fiery ambitions have been worn down over time. Now, all we really want is to live well - moment by moment."

"We learn to reflect, and to truly understand how hard-earned our daily lives are. We learn to cherish every person, every event, every little thing. We realise that not everything we work hard for will give us what we expect in return - and that's okay. We learn to let go, to bless others, to see things from another's point of view, and to recognise that a calm, healthy, and peaceful life is the greatest blessing of all," she expressed.

Shu Qi said that getting older helped her be grateful to have what she has, and to accept the fate for things she couldn't achieve.

"So I keep striving, keep improving myself. Instead of spending time complaining, why not find a cozy cafe, sip on a coffee, gaze out the window, think of nothing at all? On this day, I allow myself to do absolutely nothing," she added.

She also didn't forget to thank her mother for giving birth to her, saying that she risked her life and gave up on her own dreams to face ordinary days filled with struggles and sacrifice for the sake of her daughter.

Good on her. Seems she has found happiness with Stephen. For years she was treated like a whore by Leon Lai, who refused to acknowledge her as his parter, didn't want to be seen in public with her, and never popped the question.
