Pritam Singh says WP is not a Chinese dominated party

I READ with surprise Mr Paul Antony Fernandez's letter yesterday ("Workers' Party lacks minority representation?"), which claimed he did not see any Workers' Party (WP) member from the minority races during its Punggol East by-election victory parade.

This was an unfortunate oversight by Mr Fernandez, a fact borne out by The Straits Times' reportage and publication of pictures from the WP's by-election victory parade, the same day Mr Fernandez's letter was published.

In addition, the party's minority MPs and members were involved in the Punggol East by-election campaign from Day One - supporting MP-elect Lee Li Lian on Nomination Day, visiting residents, speaking at election rallies and helping to hand out campaign materials.

Yet other members and volunteers from the minority races were involved in the logistics coordination for the by-election and, like their fellow members, did themselves and the WP proud.

Mr Fernandez then went on to query if WP secretary-general Low Thia Khiang had forgotten our national pledge, which enshrines equality, regardless of race or creed.

The WP is a multiracial party that celebrates a multiracial and multicultural Singapore. One of the party's aims, enshrined in its Constitution, is "racial equality in practice in all spheres of public activity and equal respect in law for all racial cultures".

Like any serious political party in Singapore, the party's doors are open to Singaporeans of all races. All our members, regardless of race, accept that in order for the WP to operate as a responsible and credible party, it is vital that we move forward as a team. The WP looks forward to more Singaporeans of all races joining our ranks in future.

If you want to say that the wp is chinese dominated simply cos the leader is low then that's not a very good way to look at things. There needs to be a concrete reason as to say why the wp is a chinese dominated party first and foremost. Once that has been proven well there's nothing wrong with that.



Anyway let's put this into perspective. Take a country canada. What race is the majority and dominant race in canada? Ok so suffice to say one opposition party in canada makes inroads into the political scene over there. Well the party is white dominated cos canada is a country with a white majority. Suppose say a chinese person starts to bitch and whine about that party being dominated by white ppl in a white country. What shit would he get?


You guys have to realise that this racism and silly accusations are made by racist minorities that don't want equality cos in singapore equality amongst races is more or less there but rather want to dominate over chinese people and not only that want to do so without feeling guilty or being accused of being racist.

Minorities consist of 26% of the population. Then we need to look at the % of votes for the PAP and opposition in the last elections.(Not far between) If we play the racial card and put WP as a Chinese chauvinist party then we are going to divert all the minority votes to the PAP then we are going to have the PAP in power again in 2016.

Minority votes can be played with the racial card. No minority would vote for an obvious Chinese party(Some might consider PAP as one but it has been good for minorities so far, so there will be a problem for a Party if it is played out to be PRO-Chinese)

We have to understand this, Indians and Malays did not come to a Chinese country and they will not bow down to the Chinese.

These ppl are just making up nonsense about companies not hiring them. Mostly it must be those companies that want ppl to speak mandarin cos they deal with china or taiwan for example. Companies have a right to put up their criteria for selection.
