<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->THE China media has expressed its unhappiness over Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's remarks in the United States.
We are experiencing deep and profound changes in the world structure. A wise old man who has been on the world stage for dozens of years, Mr Lee has relied on his extraordinary insight to foresee current developments in the world. Using his wisdom in trying to influence and guide these developments, he is a blessing and not a trouble to the world.
If we look back at history, changes in the world structure usually bring war and disasters. The respective rise of Portugal and Spain a few centuries ago, the establishment of the British empire and the rise of the United States after World War II were mostly not achieved through peaceful means. It will be wonderful for all mankind if a peaceful transfer in the world structure can be realised in our generation.
China is rising. Its national power can be said to have reached an unprecedented height. But does it really dominate the world and stand tall in the international community? For example, China is still facing deep domestic problems, and its search for a 'China model' in its political reforms is just 'taking the first step in the Long March'.
Thus, it is still a long way before China can see itself as a big nation. What it needs are more friends and support, not to make enemies everywhere, as it moves towards its goal of 'the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation'.
The world has no lack of knowledge and capability, but it is in need of wiser foresight and broader minds. We should grasp and understand other people's views in their totality, and not quote them out of context or even twist their meaning according to one's bias.
There is a Chinese saying: 'All is well in the world, only the naive make a fuss out of nothing.' The world is complicated enough, and in order to determine our goals and direction amid this complexity, we need a wise head.
There are no fundamental conflicts between China and Singapore. Singapore will not and has no reasons to be unfriendly towards China, as it is not in Singapore's national interest. Disputes can arise because of the different interpretations of words. The media outlets which can set the agenda in public opinion should be careful in their words and actions, and should not adopt sensational news reporting to stir up unnecessary disputes among people.
If Chinese nationals can 'set aside the differences and look towards the future' when dealing with the Japanese who have hurt and humiliated the Chinese people tremendously in the past, we have no reasons to verbally attack well-intentioned Singaporeans who share the same language and are of the same race as us.
Looking back at the interactions between China and Singapore in the past, Singapore has provided much assistance to China, and has even influenced the process of China's economic reforms directly.
We can say without overstating it that there will be no reforms and open-door policy in China without Deng Xiaoping's visit to Singapore in 1978.
When China's reforms were stalled by the Tiananmen incident in 1989, Deng's southern expedition in 1992 called explicitly for China to learn from Singapore, taking China's reforms to a new height.
The Chinese are a people who are 'grateful and will seek ways to repay the kindness', and not one who 'will demolish the bridge after crossing the river'.
Thousands of Chinese nationals have migrated to Singapore today, with many more working or studying in Singapore. They are proud of their motherland's prosperity and strength, and have a deep feeling for Singapore in their hearts. They will not want to see any dispute between China and Singapore.
China and Singapore have always been friends and should remain so forever.
The writer is a Chinese national residing in Singapore. The article first appeared in Lianhe Zaobao last Friday. Translated by Lim Ruey Yan.

I think the motivation for growth is based on hatred is kinda of scary for a country's future...

i likened this to a train speeding along the railway tracks, any obstacles that stands in front of the train will be pushed aside..

Their feeling for Singapore is as deep as their pockets can hold the money they make from coming here.

The PRCs have "deep feelings" for S'pore.
Some Singaporeans want to be "feeling good deep inside" them.

Oh yes, they display their affection for this Cuntry by spitting in public, jumping queue, riding their shiny bicycles all over the pedestrian pavements and offering special services along the lorongs / massage parlors!
