A Chinese national was charged in court on Thursday with the murder of her roommate in a Geylang apartment. No plea was taken from Jiang Yumei, 28.

She is alleged to have committed murder by causing the death of Ms Zhao Jinhua, 25, also from China, at Kim Court in Lorong 9, Geylang, between midnight and 7.39pm on Tuesday.

The petite Jiang, who sported a ponytail and was clad in a red polo t-shirt and black bermudas, was remanded at Central Police Division for further investigation.

She will appear in court again on Feb 21. If convicted of murder, she faces the mandatory death penalty.
