Today, on the afternoon of the 29th of May 2012, I was walking in Orchard Road. This will be a day that will be etched in my memory for a few months, because it was on this day, that I nearly lost my life due to reckless driving by a foreigner.
While waiting to cross the road from Orchard Central to the Killiney Post Office, a car driven by a foreign national from China zoomed up onto the pavement to wait illegally to pick up someone. The driver stopped and waited for his friend. Still in shock, I walked up to him and told him off. “This is the pavement, not a waiting bay” I said to him. He gave a blank stare as if he did not understand me and he then apologised.
This is not an anti-immigrant xenophobic letter. The purpose of this article is to highlight the dangers of driving without due consideration to pedestrians and other road uses. It is to emphasize strongly, the importance of adhering to the traffic laws of Singapore, to ensure that no lives, be it Singaporeans or non-Singaporeans, are lost needlessly.
Foreigners and Singaporeans alike must understand that defensive driving is the way forward and that following the laws of Singapore is a duty and obligation for all, not just locals.

our TP chief has spoken.
the TP ‘reiterated’ that for conversion of FTs’ DRIVING LICENCES,it suffices thta these FTs attend a BASIC THEORY course?!!!!
then,MAY WE ASK IF SGPOREANS CAN ALOS GO OBTAIN THIER DRIVER’S LICENCES BY ‘buying’ one while taking A HOLIDAY in PRC OR INDIA?
why make it so difficult for our own sgporeans who are obtaining their driving licences here while profferring to take the LENIENT WAY to allow all sorts of FTs to convert their’driving licences’ even if they actually ‘bought’ their licences and are not QUALIFIED,eefectivley speaking,to drive?
go investtigate many of the INDIAN FTs here and you can be sure many simply BOUGHT their driving licences wihtout attending any ‘official course’ or sat for a DRIVING TEST?..even WELL-HEELED INDIAN FTs admitted to not having sat for a DRIVING TEST?
so,can TP/LTA accept SGPOREANS WHO OBTAIN THEIR LICENCES WHILE HOLIDAYONG IN prc OR india?
