As a former Asean scholar, I was privileged to be given the chance to study and subsequently work here. I have since benefited abundantly from Singapore's system of meritocracy, and am deeply grateful for it. For the past 30 years, I have marvelled at Singapore's steady progress to become a First World country, sheltering its citizens and residents under an umbrella of priceless peace and stability, superb infrastructure, and most important, a trustworthy and efficient government. No doubt, all these achievements stemmed from MM Lee's vision and energy. It is with profound gratitude to MM Lee and the Singapore Government that I write this letter. The good life that I am able to enjoy today is largely possible only in the political calm of the Singapore that MM Lee strived so hard to create.'
