Police nab man who allegedly molested woman near Serangoon Gardens

The victim lodged a police report on Feb 5 after she was allegedly molested by the suspect when she alighted from a bus in Serangoon Gardens. The woman yelled at the suspect, who then ran into a car and drove away.

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man for involvement in outraging the modesty of a woman in the vicinity of Serangoon Gardens.
On February 5, 2013, the victim lodged a Police report after she was molested by the suspect when she alighted from a bus in the vicinity of Serangoon Gardens. The woman shouted at the suspect who then ran into a car and drove off. However, the victim managed to take note of the vehicle number and provided this vital piece of information to the police. Through follow up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect. Police arrested the suspect at Tuas on February 7, 2013.
The suspect will be charged in Court on February 9, 2013 for the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with an imprisonment term of up to two years and caning.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Keok Tong San, commended the woman for remaining calm and taking note of the vehicle number. If confronted, shout for help immediately to seek assistance from people nearby and call the police promptly. Take note of the culprit's appearance, distinguishing features and mode of escape, which in this case led to the successful apprehension of the suspect.
