A 41-year-old Bangladeshi man was charged with outrage of modesty on Mar. 24 after he allegedly kissed a Taiwanese tourist, 45, by force at a capsule hotel in Bugis at around 4pm on Mar. 22.

According to charge sheets seen by Shin Min Daily News, the man was also accused of holding the woman by force and touching her body parts inappropriately, including her chest, thigh, and genitals.

The man's case will be heard in the court again on Apr. 7.

Woman's account of what happened

While the case was still before the court, the woman provided her account of what happened in a Threads post.

However, the post had become inaccessible as of 7:15pm on Mar. 24.

According to the woman, she came to Singapore for leisure travel, and the incident took place at The Room @ Bugis, located along Tan Quee Lan Street.

After allegedly molesting her, the accused, who was a staff at the hotel, apparently tried to drag her to a bed, the woman wrote in her post.

She further claimed that the accused had, at one point, forced her to sleep in a room where there were male lodgers.

The woman only managed to escape after she "used all her strength to pull herself away".

Feeling disgusted, she also ran to rinse her mouth afterwards.

Lodged police report
According to the woman, she decided to lodge a police report because she "wanted to prevent others from falling victim" to the accused.

On her way to the police station, she happened to meet a female police officer who knew Mandarin.

Upon learning about her case, the police officer "praised her for her courageous decision to alert the police immediately", recounted the woman.

The police officer also apparently shared that in such incidents, it is crucial for victims not to procrastinate in notifying the authorities, as they risk losing important evidence, such as the perpetrator's DNA on their clothes or bodies.

After the woman lodged a police report, the police issued her a case card for her to apply for a refund from Agoda, where she made the booking, as well as from the hotel.

While she felt "terrified" and "had trouble sleeping" after the incident, the woman praised the Singapore police for their professionalism and the mental health assistance they offered.

Willing to fly to S'pore to attend court proceedings
In a Mar. 23 update on Threads, the woman said that the investigation officer for her case had scheduled a meeting with her on Mar. 24 to record her statement.

She added that she is "willing to fly back and forth between Taiwan and Singapore" to attend upcoming court proceedings for her case to "speak up for women".

As for her refund request, the woman claimed that Agoda "did not want to handle her request seriously".

Mothership has reached out to Agoda and The Room @ Bugis for comments.

STB aware of incident
In response to Mothership's queries, a Singapore Tourism Board (STB) spokesperson said that the board is aware of the incident.

However, as the case has been referred to the Singapore Police Force, STB is unable to provide further information, added the spokesperson.
