Most are Happy with their HDB flats _ By Jessica Cheam
High satisfaction levels were seen across flat types, age groups, ethnicities, educational qualifications and household incomes, said the HDB, which did it's five-yearly survey via face to face interviews and online polls.
The survey showed more people living in public housing than ever before - and they are older, wealthier and better educated.
The HDB flat population increased by 2.7 per cent to 2.92 million between 2003 and 2008.
[Highfalutin___ Increase of 2.7 percent from what figure to 2.92 million? Why omit to show the figure? I did a backwards calculation and came out with
2,843,240 plus 2.7% = 2,920,007. So the actual increase in numbers is 2,920,007 - 2,843,240 = 76,767 new residents living in HDB flats in 5 years!
Less than 80,000 more residents out of the increase in population in the five years from 2003-2008. What is the increase in the population numbers? Where are the rest of the flood of immigrants, work permit and S-Pass workers staying? In condos and landed property?]
This represented about 60 per cent of Singapore's total population of 4.84 million people in 2008, according to the department of Statistics.
Out of this HDB population,
88 per cent were Singapore citizens,
08 per cent were permanent residents and
04 per cent were foreigners.
[Highfalutin___
60% of 4,840,000 = 2,904,000 HDB residents.
40% of 4,840,000 = 1,936,000 living in condo and private landed property and others.
2,904,000 HDB residents
88% Singaporean Citizens = 2,555,520 residents.
08% Permanent Residents = 0,232,320 residents.
04% Foreigners.............. = 0,116,160 residents.]
Does the above figures look right to you vis a vis the flood of foreigners we have to compete for space with?
