A number of hawker centres will be installing new tray-return facilities by the end of the year, as part of a refreshed campaign to get patrons to clear up after themselves.

The Environment and Water Resources Ministry is launching the campaign in the last quarter of this year, after earlier attempts in 2003 and 2008 did not fare well.

It is expected to start in a few existing hawker centres, and will eventually be rolled out to all 107 hawker centres under the care of the National Environment Agency.

The 10 new hawker centres that the Government is building will also have such facilities from day one.

To be annoying, I shall clear the tables for the next user but place the tray on the floor underneath the table.

Return tray sure back fire.
The return tray area sure flooded with all the tray and etc..................

They tried it once, didn't work. Tried it again, didn't work too.

This is the third time? Will not work once again. :D

Hahaha...this is going to fail badly.

The Government should stop those elderly people from working in crowded hawker and foodcourt centres. Many of these elderly people are a risk to the patrons and to themselves - falls, spillings and knocking. Many of them are unsteady when they work. They use a rag to clean the table over and over again making it more dirty.

It's time we take care of our seniors and let them live an easy and comfortable life. Must we send the Dad Brigade to do all these cleaning chores. Sometimes when I see an old uncle or auntie clearing the tables, I lose appetite.

So it's good to clear your own tables and clean your own estate. Cut down on foreign workers here!

IKEA stores tried it for sometime already, they still have the return your trays to the trays return section but it had not been altogether successful, many people, like I do, return the trays with whatever leftovers to the table. Some are still 'country people', they just eat, litter the entire table & even chairs & just walk away, that is why, they still have cleaners to remove the leftovers plus trays plus whatever refuse that were left behind. Mind you, these 'country people' drive Ma Ce Dees, Ow Di & Fa La Li, but their country roots, they never leave behind! ):-

It's within US, ourselves with right mindset (and habits) to clear. Some canteens (in Europe) even expect not just clear, but also 1) scrap leftovers 2) separate cutlery from plates, cups. We here even dump tissues on our plates!

If this could not even work in fast food restaurants which had been promoting it since day one in the 1980s.

You think will work in hawker center? I forsee that this will happen:

Everyone eat but fuck care the clearing part after eating...
The hawker center becomes messy and new patrons cannot find clean table...
No choice, new patron clear the table in order to eat his food...
After eating, just fuck off as he dun give a fuck to the next person...

If there are proper facilities or places for people to leave their used cutleries, bowls and plates and trays I am sure we Singaporeans can and will do it. The issue is not will we do it as facilities needs to be there in the first place. If people in Hong Kong and Taiwan and most ang-moh societies can do it we can do it too.

However I don't like the way PAP is politicizing this issue and bringing the FT issue into the picture. I saw our new Environment Minister Vivian talking about being a gracious society to return plates and trays what I want to tell him are
(1) Singaporeans are no kids and need to be told, hell we don't even need a campaign for this, Singaporeans are gracious enough ;
(2) he should be addressing this gracious issue with his own party to start to serve Singaporeans and returning to us Singaporeans the money they lost in their poor investments ;
(3) he should also be addressing this gracious issue with the FTs and new citizens

Enough is enough, stop scolding us Singaporeans PAP!

everything is a rush here in Singapore
dont think people will take the time to clear their trays
they all need to rush off ..
