A former administrative officer was on Wednesday (3 May) fined $12,000 for siphoning money from a PAP Community Foundation (PCF) Little Wings Preschool that she was working in.
Nurul Iman, 24, had misappropriated a total of $12,558 from the Jurong preschool on three occasions between 2014 and 2016. She was sentenced on one charge of criminal breach of trust, with two other similar charges being taken into consideration. Nurul has since made full restitution to the preschool.
Nurul was employed by the preschool in July 2014. As part of her responsibilities as an administrative officer, she was tasked to collect school fees from parents and record them in a book and the centre’s system.
In December 2014, she began misappropriating fees paid in cash. She did not record the payments in either the book or the centre’s system, thus making it seem as if the fees were unpaid, said the prosecution, represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor David Koh.
Nurul spent the money on her living expenses, such as credit card and mobile phone bills, transportation and food.
In a bid to cover up her acts, Nurul refused to call the parents whose payments were not recorded due to her misappropriation, even after being instructed by her superiors.
Her acts came to light in May last year when the Centre Principal did a preliminary audit check on the preschool.
In 2013, Nurul was also convicted of criminal breach of trust for which she received 15 months’ probation.

She could have been jailed for up to seven years and/or fined for her offences.

Didn't the centre get all the moneys back in the end? So the defendant did not benefit personally from the temparily misplaced moneys. Too harsh I say.

This government has never made good decisions in social matters. They comprise a bunch of graduates schooled in business and economics. Anything to do with social/family issues/sports/lfestyle matters, they are at a total loss. Singapore can only be seen as a successful nation only in business, commerce. Lifestyle is definitely shitty when placed in the company of advanced or developed democracies. In this, the government and its people fall very much in the same boat.

Stupid but honest m&d actually made restitution. Chink crooks are more devious. They would rather go to jail instead since they get to keep their ill-gotten loot by declaring that they've already spent it clearing debts or gambling at the nearest football club.

Restitution simi lancheow. She has no money to make restitution. If she had money she would not bother to still it in the first place. Probably the local PAP Crassloot Organization crowdfunded for her and gave her the money to make the restitution. If not. she will spill all the beans of who is fucking who, who is stealing what, who's brother in law got what contracts, etc.
