Banning is draconian, impractical and inhumane. It will just create an underground market. Moreover, how do we ban tourists, etc from smoking?

If smokers have any brain matter left at all, they will be trying their best to quit. many have successfully got rid of the addiction. Only the stupid and weak smokers are left with the life long addiction. So fucking idiotic.

Worse are smokers who make the following excuses:

1) My grandfather (or insert any male elderly person) smoked his whole life and he lived till 120 yr old
2) I exercise everyday
3) I smoke "lite" cigarettes (this is one of the dumbest)
4) I am not addicted, I enjoy smoking
5) Smoking relaxes me (another dumb reason. Smoking DOES NOT relax you, it just quenches your addiction for nicotine. It is like someone who takes off his shoes that are 2 sizes too small and proclaiming "Wow, that was relaxing".)

The first step for smokers is to admit that they are addicted, then to believe that they have to quit this unnecessary addiction, then to finally take steps to stop smoking.

If you don't think there's any problem with smoking, then your brains are already fried by all the toxins in cigarettes.

Have humans come to a stage where they are unable to make correct decisions for themselves and need to depend on others to take care of them?? I don't think this is the case but why are smokers always the exceptional ones??

If my son likes to play with knives at home and cuts himself 1 day, should I ban all knives at home?? Fortunately he managed to realize that knives are not toys, thus he never did it again. However if he chooses to continue playing with it, of course i will stop him when I see him doing it but I cannot be watching him 24hrs a day. He will just have to keep hurting himself until he learns.

What I'm trying to say is, stop wanting the easy and simplest way out, cause banning cigarettes is not practical nor feasible. Instead why don't you make your own choice, rather then constantly depend on others to make you do the right things like a small child.

If people or the future generation is unable to make the correct decisions for themselves, we cannot take care of them forever. I just hope the disappear fast enough before they reproduce and spread their inferior genes. Sadly, the people from this time and age have been protected from the full effects of the process of "Natural Selection".

Be sure to use the correct kind of ink though. I don't think burning and inhaling fumes from normal ink is healthy. Then again, 1 or 2 more harmful chemicals added to at least 43 known carcinogens (cancer causing substances) in cigarette smoke, should not make much of a differences to you guys anyway. :o

Well there's no hidden agenda behind this (unless you count wanting healthy citizens an agenda). It is simply not possible to ban all kinds of food that's unhealthy (e.g. oily, sugary, etc). Even then, MOE has actually banned the sale of fried food and limit the sale of soft drinks in schools. So it's not as though they are not doing anything.

I am surprised that smokers instead of taking high cigarette prices as a sign for them to quit smokinig, come here and kao peh kao bu.

Look, it is very simple. If you cannot afford smoking, quit smoking. If you can afford to, continue killing yourself. It's really as simple as that.

Not to mention, the $XXX,000 fines meted out are meaningless cause they'd never pay it. Just go jail for free food and lodging, paid by the government, i.e. public money. when i walk past the coffee-shops, have to hold breath when walking past the smoking area. otherwise have to make detour. same thing when walking outside department stores and office builidings when gps of smokers will be puffing away, we're at the mercy of the blowing wind

I agree with you, but the older generation is so deep into such a habit (they even tell us that in their kampong days almost everybody smokes and no one dies early or suffers from passive smoking as a result of it) that it literally becomes a part of them that is unshakable, including their obstinacy that comes with being above 55 years old - which is medically proven.

And well, what is truly deplorable is that more and more youngsters including young adult women, are taking it up despite the price hikes meant to stop them.

They are either arrogant, stupid, or simply, masochists. I mean, if they want to splurge and experience pain and systematic self-destruction they can always come to me.
