SINGAPORE: The heavy downpour Friday morning is causing chaos on the roads.

MediaCorp received several calls about floods.

Upper Thomson Road near the junction of Sin Ming Road is reported to be flooded.

Another area is Jalan Boon Lay in the direction of Corporation Road.

The downpour accompanied by gusty winds also caused branches to break off trees.

One such incident near Orchard Central along Orchard Road blocked two lanes of traffic.

The Meteorological Services Division had issued a heavy rain warning.

It said flash floods which could occur in low-lying areas.

HEAVY FLOODING AGAIN Long-Kang-Yaacob to pay back in votes!

Heavy flooding in parts of Singapore

Fri, Jun 25, 2010
AsiaOne

Singapore residents woke up to another downpour early this morning.

Skies were dark and in the eastern part of Singapore, the downpour started after 7am.

Photographer Alvin Teo, 20, an intern with AsiaOne, said of the scene he saw while walking from Braddell MRT station to the junction leading to his workplace: "The junction was flooded. People looked like they were swimming!"

A check half an hour later by AsiaOne revealed that the waters at the junction has since subsided.

Mr Teo also saw two women chasing after their slippers, which was swept away by the waters.

Reports coming in indicate heavy flooding in parts of Singapore.

Floods were seen in several areas, including parts of Upper Thomson Road and Jalan Boon Lay.

Branches, snapped off by strong gusts of wind, also caused traffic chaos.

Fallen branches disrupted traffic flow near Orchard Central, as two lanes were blocked.

The Meteorological Services Division has issued a rain-with-thunder warning. It said to also expect showers with thunder late morning and early afternoon for the next three days.

Last Wednesday, parts of Orchard Road and Bukit Timah were flooded, leading to damage to luxury shops and vehicles. In Orchard, Hermes and the three-day-old fast-food outlet Wendy's were among those whose premises and goods were reported damaged by the flood.

AsiaOne readers also said that parts of Bukit Timah were uncrossable for a period of time, except for buses and bigger vehicles.

Watch this space for updates.

Is it not obvious the real problem lie with the Marina Barrage? It's holding the water back! It probaby takes too long for the gates to respond and by then, the roads are flooded.

The heavy rain which started at about 5am this morning (Jun 25) has caused flooding in multiple areas of Singapore. STOMPers have reported flooding in Thomson, Moulmein, Paya Lebar and other areas. In some areas, the waters have risen to knee level.

STOMPer Edward sent in a video of commuters wading in knee-high water at a Thomson Road bus stop.

"Flood water reached knee height with minutes," the STOMPer said.

STOMPer Seb reported flooding along Changi Road.

The Ministry indent too much water from God! This is the dry season yet so much rain!
No wonder Sinkapore no need to buy water from mudland any more.

Floods in Tanjung Pagar GRC, AMK (Teck Ghee) and I heard in Marine Parade GRC and MacPherson too. The Mandate of Heaven has been withdrawn. Vote wisely.

Upper Thomson Rd/Sing Ming Rd Junction area....rarely seen flood there...I know the area there well....maybe some 40 years ago...

This is another of those once in 50 years occurance?...Me think that over digging underground is causing all these...for example Upper Thomson Rd where all the shop houses are located...the circle line???

A STOMPer spotted this red car wading through flood waters along Yishun Street 22. The water level had risen to the height of the car's wheels.

Said the STOMPer:

"There was a flood along Yishun Street 22.

"It happened at around 3pm."

flooding in orchard - IT'S A HONEST MISTAKE!

this reasoning is the best paps' excuse for goof ups and whammy.

last yr about nov, yacob boasted that "there shall be no flooding in orchard". and this year, orchard flooded. then he came up with "freak accident" and might not occur again. and orchard floods again today!

so IT'S A HONEST MISTAKE. this time the mistake is from god cos JUNE usually is too hot to be flooded. next on the blame list , MISS EL NINA. just in case u dunno her, she's the wicked sister of EL NINO, her fiery hot tempered brother.

makapa is right!

Singapore river is sea level lower than ground level---it is the a canal flowing in and out of the city.
If this river is dammed to create a reservior , the flood will come !

This river is not suitable to dam!

A little heavy rain will cause flood everywhere because the rate to flow out is much slower!

This morning the rain is not so heavy but the flood is everywhere !

The barrage at Singapore river must go !

Chinese saying---you trap the river dragon , the flood will come when ti rains cats !

Is it not obvious the real problem lie with the Marina Barrage? It's holding the water back! It probaby takes too long for the gates to respond and by then, the roads are flooded.
