Former opposition leader Low Thia Khiang out of critical condition
Low Thia Khiang, the one-time head of Singapore’s main opposition party, is out of intensive care but remains hospitalized days after suffering a head injury due to a fall at home.
The Workers’ Party announced that Low was moved yesterday out of the ICU unit where he spent five days since falling Thursday. The extent of his injuries were not disclosed, but they are serious enough he’s expected to spend the next few weeks in recovery.
“Mr Low’s family has asked us to convey their deep appreciation for all the good wishes sent to him for a speedy recovery,” the party
said today in a statement. It did not reveal where Low is hospitalized or the circumstances that led to his fall.
The 63-year-old politician, who led the party 17 years before stepping down in 2018, represents the Aljunied area in parliament. The Workers’ Party, now led by Pritam Singh,
said last week that the other Aljunied MPs would “cover his constituency duties” in the meantime.
