She wants him to pay $5,000 a month, but he is willing to cough up $2,000 tops, because he suspects she would blow the money on herself instead of on the eight-year-old.
The 43-year-old woman said in her affidavit that the money was for their daughter's expenses; she also wants him to bear half the relocation cost, including the rental of her apartment in Kovan and a car, and the cost of the counselling the child now needs to deal with having seen him beat her mother early this year.
He said her demands are excessive, but evidence produced in court indicated he earned more than $1 million in 2007.
His affidavit puts his earnings at less than half that, or about $38,000 a month. He said that, aside from his club memberships, other expenses, and gifts for his three children from his failed marriage, he was also paying $2,000 in maintenance for each of those children.
The parties are not named to preserve the identity of the child.
The pair met while he was visiting Taiwan in 1995 and began an affair, which continued despite the distance. Four years later, she moved here, became a permanent resident and began working for him in the company.
The child was born in 2001, and two years later, he left his wife to set his new family up in a lavish lifestyle. The couple never got married. Then the relationship soured to the point where she moved out with their daughter in January, following a violent quarrel.
The woman, now jobless, said she and the child are living off her savings and are unable to cope without his help.
The case will come up in about two weeks.
