Watching it on TV and after 25 minutes it is looking like a disaster unless something more exciting or entertaining happens. The desire to show their evolving history ended up being more history with great looking props and nothing else.

Oscar winning director Danny Boyle of Slumdog Millionaire fame forgot about the entertainment and decided to do a real-live documentary.

Hope he surprises me after the 30 minute mark.

After Beijing's spectacular show, it was going to be a tough ask anyway. Chinese threw money and the kitchen sink to save face and I doubt any nation can afford that sort of expenses at least for the next 20 years.

Start of 2nd part - Hospital beds, children, nurses to recognise their pioneering work in public health. The poor kids getting tired jumping on their beds. Also their literature especially for the kids. Remember home of Harry Potter.

Actually, when it comes to materials that inspire for a show, China has alot to offer, as it has 5,000 years of history and achievements.
For the British, it can only come up with "ring the bell" childish shit.

In any case, the British's history is peppered with slavery and colonization and it's long-standing feuds with North Ireland and IRA, which was the pioneer in car bombings. LOL!

The event has no sliver of link to the Olympics. It more history, film, music, comedy with Mr Bean (comedy was good though) etc.

You are right, they left out this part.

What a disaterous performance. I believe they are playing some sex pistols song right now and that's in the 70s. Holy jesus that means we have to watch the 80s,90s and so on.

Some randon black kid looking like the 80s michael jackson is constantly in the spot light along with a mixed black gal. It goes to show how multi racial the UK has become.

Also aren't most of these 80s songs they are playing now produced in the US?

Final rating - if Beijing was a 10 then London would score 2/10. The 2 covers props and for turning up.

I pity those who actually paid for a ticket and are in the stadium. They would not have a clue what the hell is going on.

Mass events are held in stadiums because the space and distance does not lend itself easily to minor movements being interpreted. There is also lot of video shots from outside shown on screen.

Danny Boyle should have included a segment of how British sold opium to China and further weakened the Chinese will, to make money at the expense of conscience, so as to annex the China for further plunder and bullying.

Thank Gawd they finally brought out the athletics to stop the agony.

holy shit it would take ages for singapore to show up since only countries starting with C are showing up. No wonder it ends at 7am.

It's the best of British what are you expecting... 4000 drummers of pure noises whom no one can relate what's all about it. I'll take Chariot of Fire and music of WHO, Def Leppard, Eric Clapton, Beatles, and other musicals in this Olympic than the one in Beijing.

Just saw Chinese B team led by a PRC born flag bearer. Very proud President Tony Tan waving madly at the Chinese B Team.

The only disaster is the final bill that taxpayers have to bear for the greed of contractors who have fleeced the UK government and the kickbacks involved. Wait till the critics start bashing at the economic loss involved.
