Re: Why MOE ?

Def a very big soul searching post mortem coming up. I do think MOE has been lax in regulating this leaving the discretion to the schools to administer this. Of course some schools will take more risks than others!

Re: Why MOE ?

That is what leadership training is for, for them to not freeze. These children are carefully vetted and selected among students of their age. Some leaders are born, some leaders are made, some just perish along the way, no big deal. We can import more to replace them.

I have no qualms about this leadership programme. What I want to point out is that it is totally inappropriate for 11 to 12 years old given the level of maturity their age can offer in light of the activities that the perilous hike Mt Kinabalu has to offer !:o

When they 'push the envelope ' and take extra risks, this kind of incidents will come up. It's all in the stats!

TKPS is 30-35% Ah Nehs….

Many ah neh children. Unlike docile sinkies, once their grief subsides i doubt the parents will simply let it pass. FTs soon to mount class action suit against MOE? Teehee!

Kundasang (Malaysia) (AFP) - Five Singapore primary school students and one teacher were among the 13 people so far confirmed killed by an earthquake that rocked Malaysia's Mount Kinabalu, the city-state's government said Sunday.

"We are deeply saddened to inform that the bodies recovered by the Malaysian authorities have been identified by their next-of-kin as five students and one teacher from Tanjong Katong Primary School," said a statement by Singapore's Ministry of Education.

The statement also confirmed that a Singapore adventure guide who accompanied a school excursion to the popular climbing destination was killed in Friday's quake, which triggered massive landslides on the mountain.

It added that another student and a teacher remained missing.

Rescue teams continued to search on Sunday for six people that authorities say are still missing.

Friday's 6.0-magnitude quake, which struck near the mountain in the state of Sabah on Borneo island, was one of Malaysia's strongest in decades.

But there have been no reports of major damage or any casualties outside of those on the 4,095-metre-high (13,435-foot) mountain, a Borneo tourist destination.

Malaysian officials have so far released few details on casualties at the peak.

The Sabah earthquake that has so far taken the lives of 11 climbers was a result of the action of Western tourists who had stripped naked near Mount Kinabalu's summit last month, said the state's Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he said the tragedy was a "confirmation" of the consequences of the actions of the 10 Europeans who he said had been disrespectful to local customs. He called on the culprits to be brought to a native court to be charged, the Malay Mail Online reported.

"Whether other people believe this or not, it's what we Sabahans believe. When the earthquake happened, it's like a confirmation of our beliefs," he said.

"It is a sacred mountain and you cannot take it lightly," he added. On May 30, pictures of five naked men on the mountain *surfaced on social media, followed by a picture of the 10 tourists - including four women - undressing near the south peak of Mount Kinabalu, The Star reported.

Sabahans railed against the images, as they consider the mountain sacred. Sabah Parks director Datuk Jamili Nais said the four women and six men had split from their group and gone on to the south peak.

The tourist ignored the warnings from their mountain guide, calling him "stupid" and telling him to "go to hell", when he pleaded with them to stop as they took off all their clothes and posed for pictures.

A show-cause letter has been issued to the guide over the incident.

All guides have also been told to ensure they clearly state that going naked on the mountain was strictly prohibited during their briefings to climbers in the future.

Nine more bodies were found on Saturday, bringing the death toll to 11, with eight people still unaccounted for, Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said.

Re: Why MOE ?

In my opinion, it is not suitable for 11 or 12 years old who lacks maturity compared to those in the secondary schools. The trail they took is quite dangerous for those their age.:o

The point I want to make is that a primary school kid if compared to a secondary kid, cannot have the maturity to understand a situation fast enough and also the ability to respond thereof. In most sudden critical situations, they will just freeze.:o

Another significant point I want to make regarding the lack of maturity as they are 11 or 12 years old , is the fact that for the survivors of the trip, they will be scarred emotionally for life reliving the events and also the guilty syndrome of why they are alive. For secondary school students, I am sure they can cope much better. This is indeed tragic.:o

I have no qualms about this leadership programme. What I want to point out is that it is totally inappropriate for 11 to 12 years old given the level of maturity their age can offer in light of the activities that the perilous hike Mt Kinabalu has to offer !:o
You sound rather odd today, unlike the usual self

........ did you take your medicine this morning?

A Period Of National Mourning? State Flag Half Mast? Yes, it will be done.

Excerpt from abc news
The mountain will be closed for three weeks for maintenance work, and flags will be flown at half-staff in Sabah on Monday to mourn the victims.

Sabah have already declared a day of mouring and flags to be flown at half-mast on Monday.

Will our government do likewise?

Re: Will Government Declare A Period Of National Mourning And State Flag Flown Half M

The most innocent one is the teacher. Teachers can't take leave during the semester, and you still 'volunteer' them to do such nonsense during the school holidays.

As for the kids, their blood is on their parents hands. Even Gunung Tahan is a challenge for an adult, and you're letting the kids climb Mount Kinabalu?

Re: Will Government Declare A Period Of National Mourning And State Flag Flown Half M

Not one Sinkie who died here is innocent.

Sinkie perfer to killed by natural events rather than fight and die for their rights back home.

And even more retards are Sinkie who offer pity to such Sinkie who die this way!
