A full-time national serviceman failed to see a jaywalker while driving and knocked her down in 2011.
Madam Cheng Ooi Yuet, 76, a cleaner died at the accident scene and on Tuesday, Wilson Teng Wee Siang was fined $7,000 for driving negligently and causing her death.
The 24-year-old, now an undergraduate with the National University of Singapore pleaded guilty and was also disqualified from driving any vehicle for five years.
A district court heard that Teng was driving on the centre lane of Jalan Bukit Merah at about 4.45pm in April 2011. When he saw Madam Teng in the path of his car, he swerved left.
