This is the reality of politics. In US the president rewards their key campaigners with ambassador appointments for their help during campaign. Here you have pap using taxpayers money to dangle the carrots and win votes. There after share the spoils in the form of upgrading contracts with their cronies as reward for their loyalty.

I think the US political system is a basket case and even worse compared to Singapore. But that does not excuse us. I also understand that some people involved in the BE look to the US as an example of a vibrant democracy and clearly this is misguided. The US system is intractibly flawed and will likely worsen over time. Singapore we can still save. The 800 pound gorilla is the PAP which uses all the tools its disposal to prevent power sharing and political plurality from developing. What we need to do is to first cut the PAP down at the ballot box. That's the first step
