Neptune Orient Lines is putting up the building that houses its headquarters for sale to free up capital.

It said on Monday in a statement that it intends to sell its 29-year-old HQ 'to release capital for strategic investment'.

NOL said it 'has not decided on a reserved price' for the freehold commercial building.

It will only decide whether to relocate the 500 employees who work there or remain in the existing building as a tenant after a buyer is identified, it added.

NOL building is really old , need to sell off to property management company to renovate . Such big capital project NOL cannot afford it .

Who are NOL's major shareholders?
Temasek Holdings - the investment arm of the Singapore Government - is the largest single shareholder with a 68% holding.

Then easy , they just sell to Mappletree or Keppeland or Capitaland . All kawan kawan !

Awww... NOL building is one of the more prominent landmarks along Alexandra Road.

Please don't demolish another piece of Sinkieland's history.

Last quarter Q1'12, loss was at US254 million or S$317 milliion (@1.25)
Straits Time today indicate valuation about S$353 million.

Is it a sign of desperation having losses for 5 straight quarter?
The sale of NOL Building would only last them only 1 quarter.

I think it's not a good sign, if the Baltic Index does not move up soon.

Well said. Thru the REIT system, what NOL receives from the sale is recycled back to the Mapletrees and Ascendas in the form of rentals and mgmt fees. Eventually money still stays in the system for TH and family. Genius.

PAP once described Spore as being run as an efficient company :p

When you have one family in charge of everything, this limits the capacity of the management. NOL is just one of many things going wrong on this island. The 60% better wake up fast while there is still $ left.

NOL decides to sell building to help ease cashflow and working captial, and still don't know where to locate 500 HQ staff.

Knn, write until four grandmother long sentences and beat around the bush.

My english tio bo:confused:

500 staff only in that whole building really under use.
NOL main building office in the world only 500 staff. That really bad down size better closed shop.
How to compete with others.
Before NOL is a major shipping line in the world now is a peanut.
