JOHOR BARU - Not only humans are getting new clothes and new hairstyles in time for Chinese New Year.
Dog owners are doing the same for their four-legged friends.
Doggies Spa co-owner Michelle Chaw said that there was a marked increase in the number of customers coming to her outlet at Taman Nusa Bestari to buy new clothes for their pets.
"The owners get very excited when choosing clothes for their dogs as there are several designs to choose from, ranging from T-shirts, blouses and aprons to accessories like hair clips," she said when met at the outlet here.
She said the clothes, priced between RM20(S$8) and RM40, were mainly imported from South Korea and Japan.
"One of the most popular designs that customers are always asking for is the lace blouse design with little bows on the side. T-shirt designs are not well received by dog owners here.
"They usually look for light clothings that will not restrict their pets' movements or make them uncomfortable in our weather," she said, adding that the items have been selling like hot cakes since early January.
Freelance designer Crystal Shim, 29, who has a three-year-old Schnauzer, said it was a must for her to buy matching outfits for herself and her dog for the coming festival.
The outlet also offers spa packages for owners who want to pamper their dogs.
Chaw, who used to groom show dogs in Singapore, added that the outlet gets about five pets a day for the 20-minute spa session.
